Aaron Slight on podium in ASCAR debut

Aaron Slight competed in ASCAR (NASCAR - UK spec) for the first time at Rockingham Motor Speedway on Saturday. The superbike ace impressed all the regulars and the fans around the oval, on his debut ASCAR Mintex Cup race, supporting the Indy car Rockingham 500.

Aaron in the carWith four-wheeled experience at the helm of a works Peugeot touring car earlier this season, in which he led his debut race at Donington, the Kiwi took well to the increased power and speed of the howling V8 monster. He adjusted well to the style required to drive a rear-wheel drive car.

He started 11th on the grid for the race, but by Lap 13 Aaron was ready to capitalise on Paul Sheard who lost 2 positions in 1 lap, to the charging Aaron Slight and Sportscar ace Neil Cunningham.

Later the battle started to hot up even more as the Safety Teams were alerted by spotters to check the far side of the track on lap 25 following a retirement, bringing out the only caution of the race.

The race went green on lap 27 and Aaron Slight wasted no time in capitalising upon the restart by passing Mark Proctor to grab 4th place. Lee Caroline pitted on lap 37 which moved Slight up to a wonderful 3rd position, which he held to the flag.

'What a great weekend it has been. I had 70 laps last week to get used to the car and the driving style. A podium was fantastic for the team and the fans who turned out.' - Aaron Slight
