SuperSport rider Deon Coote's bills for this weekend's FX race meeting in Queensland started mounting even when they were still miles from the track.  Not one, but two, suicidal cows battered the Coote van and have left it looking decidedly second hand.  As if racing is not expensive enough....

My first thoughts upon seeing the mess of their van was, "What if it was someone on a bike?".

The fact that livestock can be roaming on public roads, even when not in the outback, is preposterous.  But it happens all the time, enough of the time to make you think that we must be living in a third world country where the farms are not fenced.  But this is the truth of the matter when you really get away from the big towns, even on major national highways.  I have crested hills on highway 1, our around Australia highway, to be greeted by hundreds of sheep milling in the middle of the road.  The first time I came across this, I had to remind myself I was travelling in Australia and not in another country.

What makes this fact even worse is that, I am led to believe, the law protects the farmers from prosecution should their livestock be responsible for someone's injury or death.  Ridiculous, and obviously one of the number of laws that have not been updated for a century.

And governments have the hide to talk about road safety.  They just stick their heads in the sand and buy more speed cameras, because they save lives.....................And anyone that believes that crap has obviously already had a labotomy.
