Honda Motorcycles Australia is pleased to announce the signing of Jason O’Halloran to ride a CBR600RR Supersport machine in the 2004 Australian Road Racing Championship
under the team name Honda MPE Financial Services. Honda MPE Financial Services is the new finance arm of Honda MPE providing competitive finance packages for the entire Honda MPE product range from Motorcycles to Power Equipment and Marine. The Honda MPE Financial Services team will operate as an extension of the factory Castrol Honda Racing team with full support offered in preparation of the motorcycles. This satellite team set-up will be used by Honda as a feeder into the factory Castrol Honda Racing team and will provide young riders, such as Jason, the opportunity to develop their racing skills without the pressure to perform that comes with riding in a full factory team. Both teams will be supported by the same sponsors so they will have access to the best equipment like Michelin tyres and Castrol Oils. Other equipment that Jason O’Halloran will have at his disposal is two fully race prepared CBR600RR’s that have been built up to Australian Supersport specification. In fact the machines Jason will use are the machines ridden by Josh Brookes in the 2003 championship so the motorcycles certainly know how to get around a race track very quickly! Castrol Honda team manger Paul Free has called on his years of racing experience to put together a strong on-track presence for the Castrol Honda team this year and the team is only getting stronger with each visit to the race track. While Jason O’Halloran will rely on his own mechanic to look after most mechanical duties at the race track he will also have access to the resources of the Castrol Honda technicians to assist with set-up. Honda looked at many young riders for this team but the decision was made to support Jason O’Halloran because of his potential to develop into a future racing talent in Australia. Jason has already enjoyed great success in junior dirt track and road racing. He competed in the 2003 125GP championships where he finished 2nd and along the way he set some very impressive lap times. With guidance from experienced hands Jason will use the 2004 season as a learning year to prepare for a strong future in Australian road racing. Castrol Honda team manager Paul Free was excited about the addition to the Castrol Honda team and said “At Honda we’d like to be able to provide a career path into racing for young riders like Jason. This is a great opportunity for Jason to progress his career through to a larger four-stroke Supersport machine with a company like Honda. Our plan is to continue this arrangement for several years to develop fresh talent.” The first race meeting for the Honda MPE Financial Services team will be at Round 1 of the Australian Road Racing Championship in March next year. Honda would like to wish Jason and the Honda MPE Financial Services team every success next year in an exciting new chapter in Honda’s Australian racing history. |
