Jay Taylor is hoping to
head to Spain this year to race the Spanish SuperSport Championship.
It has been rumoured for some time now that the MotoGP Championship will soon have a 600cc 4-stroke based new "GP2" Championship to replace the 250 2-strokes. Much the same as of course the new 4-stroke GP bikes are replacing the 500s in the MotoGP Championship. The long running and reportedly accurate rumours have been saying that the "GP2" 600s will not be like normal SuperSport bikes. The new 600s will run on slicks/wets with aftermarket suspension and most modifications allowed to produce a faster race bike. The 2002 Spanish SuperSport Championship is to run along these lines with slicks and fairly free modification rules. Hopefully competing in this championship will give Jay the exposure and experience he needs to score a ride in the coming series if the rumoured "GP2" 4-stroke Championship does eventuate in 2003 or 2004. Jay has not signed a Spanish contract yet but hopes to have his deal sorted this week. |
