Kurtis Roberts to race a 500 in Malaysia

As we have told you here before Kurtis Roberts will become the latest member of the Roberts clan to race a 500 GP bike when he makes his 500cc debut at the Malaysian GP next weekend.

Kurtis, younger brother of World Champion Kenny Junior, and son of former triple champion Kenny Senior, will race the Proton KR3 as a wild card entry in the bike's home GP.

The youngest of the Racing Roberts family will be riding alongside Proton Team KR regular Jurgen van den Goorbergh, in his first ride on the lightweight three-cylinder KR3, the machine developed by his father's team.

This means he will be racing against his brother for the first time - their paths have never crossed in the past, except in training rides at the family ranch in California

Kurtis has raced in GPs before , but in the 250 class in 1997, while his elder brother was racing 500s. While Kenny Junior was winning his first 500cc World Championship last year, Kurtis was racing at home in the States, winning his second AMA Formula Xtreme title, and his first 600 Supersport title. During 2000, Kurtis has defended his 600 Supersport title with Erion Honda, and AMA Superbikes for Honda Racing.

"We have to thank Honda for releasing Kurtis from his contract for this one race," said team owner Kenny Senior.

"It was a chance to give Kurtis some 500-class experience - and maybe one of the last chances for him to race a two-stroke," he added.
