Oct 7 - This video highlights the Australian-American rivalry in
1990 and talks to Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, Wayne
Gardner and the new young up and comer, Mick Doohan. Wayne Rainey
went on to win the Championship in 1990, 91 and 92, Schwantz in 1993
before Mick Doohan took the first of his five championships in 1994.
Kenny Roberts Junior was the next rider to win for America in 2000
after Alex Criville took the title in 1999. Valentino Rossi took the
first of his five titles in succession in 2001. Nicky Hayden halted
the Italian's run in 2006 before Casey Stoner won the first title
for Australia since Mick Doohan's last crown in 1998. Rossi won the
title back in 2008 and currently leads the 2009 series from Spain's
Jorge Lorenzo. |
