Andy Caldecott Memorial Project
Easter marked an important milestone in the push to establish a lasting memorial to Andy Caldecott, who was tragically killed in Mauritania on the 9th January 2006 during the ninth stage of the 28th gruelling Paris Dakar Rally.
Chairman of the Andy Caldecott Memorial Project Committee, Rod Flintoff said, “Andy was born and lived all his life in Keith South Australia.
“He was a true professional in all aspects of his life, and a great ambassador for not only his chosen sport of motorcycle racing, but also for the township and community of Keith.
“Despite all Andy’s successes on the world stage, he retained his humility and was always there to help the local community and support local youth to achieve their goals, whether it be in this beloved sport of motorcycling, or life in general.
“It’s this commitment by Andy that has driven the Keith community to ensure that his legacy is not forgotten.
“The Committee aims to raise over $65,000 to create a lasting memorial in Pilmore Park, adjacent to the Dukes Highway, in Keith South Australia.
“We’re also very pleased to acknowledge the fantastic support, financially and in-kind, from the Tatiara District Council. They’ve been supporting the Committee right from the start, and are keen to see Andy’s Memorial come to fruition.”
Easter saw the erecting of signage in Pilmore Park highlighting the memorial project, which is the first step by the Andy Caldecott Memorial Project Committee in engaging the general public in the project. In addition, a web site has also been set up to promote the project, www.andycaldecott.com.au
