Friday, July 12 Conditions varied
from scattered showers to sunshine at Chidlow. The
track was altered for today's finals with a couple of short
sections of track deleted from the circuit by bobcat.
This was due to the amount of deep standing water at some
parts of the circuit which was deemed hazardous to rider
safety. The finals commenced today.
Again there were some scoring problems today, the mud
covering the bikes making the job of the scorers immensely
difficult. Trying to keep track of, or identify, the
riders was extremely hard to say the least.
Here is a brief run down of what happened up
front in each of today's races. They run in order from
the first race of the day to the final race for the day.
125 13-15 years
Wade Thompson was the early leader from Toby Price, Jack
Daniele and Bronte Holland. Toby Price worked his way up to
2nd and started challenging Thompson for the lead, but price
then ran off the track after nearly landing on a backmarker.
This incident cost him a lot of ground but he got straight
back on the job and pushed Wade Thompson all the way to the
line on the final lap to take 2nd. Jack Daniele came
home 3rd. 85cc 9-12 years
Bradley Abegg on a Yamaha got the early advantage over Adam
Murray on a Kawasaki. But Murray went on to take the lead
after Abegg had an off around the back of the circuit and
lost stacks of places. Adam Murray went on to take a clear
win from Grady Holland and Kieron Hall.
65cc 7-9 years
A good clear start by the 7-9 year olds with Kale Makeham
leading from Starcevich. Josh Melis was an early 3rd
but James Booth-Elliott took that from him at the end of lap
1. Makeham dropped it a couple of laps later and had a
lot of trouble getting going again. Starcevich took a clear
lead while Makeham was suffering from his troubles and went
on to take the win from Joshua Melis, James Booth Elliott
came home 3rd.
65cc 11-13 years
Another fairly incident free start in this one with Kieran
Tisdale leading from Taylor Potter for most of the first lap
before being overhauled. Kieran Tisdale then had an incident
on the circuit which allowed Potter through for the lead and
promoted Regan Bernardi up in to 2nd position. The first
serious rays of sunshine of the week saw a jubilant but
exhausted Taylor Potter cross the line to take the win from
Bernardi, Coby Willis scored a 3rd. Tisdale did well to work
his way back up to 5th.
65cc 9-11 years
Light rain came back for the 9-11 year olds which obviously
suited Josh Cachia as he immediately started pulling away
from the pack. South Australia's Codey Von Stanke was 2nd
early in the race but fellow KTM pilot Jake Pengelly (QLD)
got the better of him to finish the race with a 2nd place
from the first final of the class. Pengelly pushed real hard
on the last lap and pressured Cachia all the way to the line
but the Victorian had the goods on him.
85cc 14-16 years
Matt Moss took the lead early on in the first of the 85cc
finals for the 14 to under 16 year olds. Kerrim Fitzgerald
riding well in 2nd, followed by Wade Thompson and Ford Dale.
Moss was not challenged at all during the race and
celebrated his win by getting some major air out of his
Suzuki on the big front straight jump.
85cc 12-14 years
Young Louis Calvin was a hot favourite in the 12-14 year
class on the 85cc machine but it just was not to be for the
young local after dropping his machine in a rut at the first
turn, he lost around half a lap on the whole field trying to
get his machine going again. To his credit though there was
no spitting the dummy and when he got the bike going again
he put his head down and fought his way back past 20 riders
in the space of only 7 minutes to salvage some points with a
ninth place finish. Queensland's Brendon Harrison put in a
great ride to come from 5th in the early laps all the way to
the front to take the race win. Kurt Chalker 2nd and
Ben Potter 3rd. Potter was actually the early leader but an
off track excursion cost him any chance of a win.
125cc 15 years
Bradleigh Thompson and Bryan Staring both got off to great
starts in the first final for the big boys of the juniors.
Bryan Staring put the hammer down while Thompson was left to
recover from a small off. Staring took a clear win onboard
his Honda CR machine from KTM's Bradleigh Thompson. New
Zealand's Jake Boyd took a solid third position, the Kiwi
being able to ride today due to the kind lend of some parts
for his machine after he struck some mechanical trouble
earlier on in the day.
125cc 13-15 years
13-15 year olds also have their own class on the serious
125cc bikes and major carnage unfolded at the first jump on
lap 1. However, South Australia's Wade Thompson was
unaffected and started to clear out in front. Bronte
Holland, riding with some bruises caused by a big fall
yesterday, could not challenge Thompson for the win.
Kawasaki mounted Toby Price one again rode solidly to take
3rd. With one final left tomorrow Price is 2nd on
points, 3 ahead of Holland. KTM's Wade Thompson is the clear
points leader though with a 14 point margin.
85cc 9-12 years
Kieron Hall was the early leader in the second final for the
9-12 year old riders aboard 85cc machines. Bradley Abegg
2nd, Adam Murray 3rd. Lots of riders had problems in the
esses as big ruts caused many some major problems. Grafton's
Ashlea Bates showed plenty of the boys what a girl can do by
running with the leaders. Jake Pengelly is definitely the
master of air time in this class and doing the longest jumps
on the main straight by far. Kieron Hall went on to take the
win. Scoring problems prevent us from giving you the
full results of the race at this stage..
65cc 7-9 years
The 65cc machines of the 7-9 year olds may only be small but
the little machines absolutely fly off the line. Daniel
Banks was the early leader from Anthony Starcevich this time
around. But Starcevich went on to take the lead and
walk away from them a little. James Booth-Elliott got Daniel
Banks for 2nd. Jacob Blomfield was running strongly with the
leading group before having to retire after an expired
clutch robbed him of all drive from his KTM machine. After
the win Starcevich leads the class on points from James
Booth Elliott and Joshua Melis.
65cc 11-13 years
Taylor Potter was the early leader from Regan Bernardi and
Bradley Abegg in the 11-13 years class. Regan Bernardi took
the lead early on but then went down and lost major time
over the leading group. A bit of confusion surrounded the
results in this race and they won't be clarified until
later. By my dodgy eye it looked as though Jamie Bain could
have took the win from Bradley Abegg.
65cc 9-11 years
The last race of the day was not short on action as Codey
Von Stanke led early on before running in to some problems
which left a hard charging Josh Cachia to take the lead.
Jarrad McNeil an early third, Tye Simmonds 4th, Adam
McDermid running 5th. Josh Cachia dropped it in the middle
of the circuit which allowed Von Stanke to squeeze back
through for the lead. Once again things got a little too
frenetic to call who was where and full results of this race
will not be known until later.
