Let’s Find Out Who Is The Best Combined Road and MX Racer In The Land |
AFXSBK-AMXC Cross Challenge MCNEWS.COM.AU Plate By, Trevor Hedge – MCNEWS.COM.AU After discussing the launch of the exciting new racing concept that is the December 18-19 Winton extravaganza combining road racing and motocross I suggested to promoter Terry O’Neill (Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions) that an award be presented along the lines of an Ironman type honour for the highest points scorers across both classes. Terry mentioned that it was a good idea and thus I put up my hand to sponsor an award which we have called the ‘AFXSBK-AMXC Cross Challenge MCNEWS.COM.AU Plate’. Quite a mouthful I know, but also we hope quite an honour. A biathlon of motorcycle racing. Rather than hand out another plastic trophy to add to what no doubt would already be a massive collection I have commissioned local artisans to make something a little more unique from quality Victorian Blackwood that hopefully will prove a little more special than gold painted plastic. The winner of the AFXSBK-AMXC Cross Challenge MCNEWS.COM.AU Plate will also feature on the front page of MCNEWS.COM.AU immediately following the event and will feature highly in all coverage of the event. A number of riders have already expressed serious interest in competing across both disciplines and the AFXSBK-AMXC Cross Challenge MCNEWS.COM.AU Plate is sure to add a little more interest to the Winton event. The afternoon and evening of Saturday, December 18 will see Winton play host to the single round Australasian FX Superbike Championship. While Sunday, December 19th sees the running of the inaugural Australasian FX Motocross Championship for both senior and junior competitors. The event also provides the opportunity for all those juniors that have both road race and motocross competition machines to ride them back to back on the same weekend which again is quite a unique experience. A tarmac only Supermono class also provides an outlet for frustrated Supermoto competitors starved of some serious tarmac action. This inaugural multi-discipline event is something that hopefully can grow in coming years in to a must do date for Australian motorcycle racers and race fans. Terry O’Neill from ARTRP commented “Trevor’s idea for an award for the top placed competitors who score the best combined results by competing in both the road racing and MX disciplines at the combined Australasian FX-Superbike Championship and the AMX Championship no matter what classes they compete in is an excellent concept and one that I agreed to straight away. Word of mouth travels fast and there are already quite a few competitors who can race both disciplines who are talking grudge races against guys they would usually only race against in road racing.” O’Neill added “This contest will by its unique nature sort out who is the best in racer overall in both MX and Road Racing in the land. I take my hat off to Trevor for coming up with this one.” Winton offers on-site camping facilities and is a licensed venue. Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions are currently investigating entertainment options for the Saturday evening to help keep campers amused after the sun sets on the Saturday evening Superbike racing and preparations commence for a full Sunday of motocross. |
