Honda Racing was undoubtedly the two wheeled star of the show at last weekend’s Speed Trials in Geelong, an event dedicated to motoring enthusiasts from across the
country. In front of a crowd of several thousand, Castrol Honda Racing Team rider Josh Brookes proved that the 10 second record could indeed be broken after 25 years! With the crowd roaring him on, Josh blitzed the 400 metre Waterfront track. Aboard the 2003 Honda CBR Fireblade 954 Josh’s best time of three laps was 9.4 seconds. Young Jason O’Halloran, Castrol Honda’s newest rider was also in excellent form with a best time of 10.4 seconds on the 2003 Honda CBR600RR. At only 16 and this being his first competition on behalf of the Team, Jason is already showing the signs and finesse of a future champion. Castrol Honda’s Team Manager Paul Free said, “This was a great weekend for us and I believe it is a taste of the kind of performances we can expect to see in the 2004 Superbike rounds.” “It was also great to see Josh and Jason work so well together. I know they are both looking forward to the start of the season.” The two day program featured some of the greatest ever super-cars and motorcycles competing on Saturday, and historic sports, touring, and racing cars on Sunday. This year the Speed Trials included a celebration of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Ltd. (CAMS) 50th Anniversary and the FORD Motor Company’s 100th Anniversary. Staged in Geelong since 1956, no event in the Southern Hemisphere brings together a greater collection of classic sporting motorcars, motorcycles and automotive personalities - over 1,000 thoroughbred motorcars and motorcycles participate over the two-day weekend event. Motorcycles were a special feature of the event this year, including the revolutionary Britten from New Zealand, the equally exotic Hunwick-Hallam, plus Nortons, Triumphs, Hondas, Ducatis and more. Director of the Geelong Speed Trials Garry Grant said, “…participants and spectators have rated this event among the best event of its type in the world”. |
