Mick Kelly was running hard and strong out in front in yesterday's opening Aussie 125 race before the Mildura lost the rear out of one of the turns. This meant
that young Jason O'Halloran inherited the lead and duly romped away to take the win by a healthy 11 second margin over South Australia's Rudi Muller. Again it was Mick Kelly who led the field away and through turn one but Jason O'Halloran got him in Southern Loop. This race looked to be shaping up as a much closer battle today. That was until O'Halloran upped the pace a little further and pulled half a second on his pursuers. A tight battle for 2nd was unfolding as Kelly, Muller and Galvin came down the straight side by side and Galvin took that 2nd spot down the straight but then his bike cried enough as he set up for turn one and the Sydney veteran put his leg out to signal to the others that it was the end of his race.Cath Thompson starred on the second lap though to move past Muller in to 3rd place. Young WA motocross rider Bryan Staring was running strong in 5th before his machine also cried enough and he was forced to retire. Cath Thompson then got the better of Mick Kelly but he came right back a few corners later as the experienced duo kicked off an exciting battle for 2nd place. This battle actually slowed the pair down a little though as they robbed each others lines and made passes which in turn let O'Halloran escape even further out in front and with 2 laps to run the young Sydney rider had built a healthy 6-second lead which he then extended to 7.5-seconds to take the win from Kelly.
