No Kevin Curtain to contend with here this weekend for the Australian Superbike boys. Nikon Yamaha have elected not to replace their injured rider and are running
Daniel Stauffer as a sole entrant in this class. New Australian Superbike Champion Craig Coxhell is racing with the #1 plate on his GSX-R1000 Suzuki while Shawn Giles wears the most unfamiliar to him #2 on the front of this machine. Phil Tainton normally holds the reigns and runs the show at Team Suzuki but the master tuner is in France with the Australian entrants in the GSX-R World Cup being staged at Magny Cours. So steering the ship this weekend is Lynne Tainton, Phil's wife and regular member of the team over many years. On the Honda side of fence it is again a mix of unbridled youth and canny experience. Josh Brookes of course the young end of the equation while the wily senior member of the team is Kirk McCarthy. Shannon Johnson is racing in World Supersport this weekend so he is absent from the Honda line-up.The battle for the fastest privateer is also shaping up as a good one as Stephen Tozer, Brent George, Nick Henderson and Scott Charlton traded places on the timesheets. An interesting addition to the field is the production model Benelli Tornado that importer John Orchard has entered in the event. This bike is still fairly stock at this stage but John plans to use this meeting to help develop the new machine in preparation for an entry in the Australian Superbike Championship in 2004.
