2003 Shell Advance Australian Superbike Championship Round 5 (Final) - Eastern Creek - Race 2 - 125 GP August 31st, 2003 |
|
| Josh Waters and Mick Kelly both got off the line well while Peter Galvin worked his way up to third place around the first few turns after not the best run from the
line. Jason O'Halloran got a bad start once again but got up to fourth as they started lap two after taking fellow 15 year old Matthew Kuhne at turn one. He then quickly caught Galvin and took third place. O'Halloran recorded a very fast 1-minute 38.3 second circuit on lap two and quickly got Mick Kelly for second place a couple of corners later. If only the boy could get off the line well! That poor start by O'Halloran had let 16 year old Joshua Waters build a healthy four second lead and the two youngsters were both lapping in the 1-minute 38-second bracket which put them a level above their opposition at Eastern Creek today. Their times would have been good enough for a near podium finish in the 250 GP race this morning! The 125 class is clearly quite healthy this year with the injection of youngsters from the ranks of Junior Moriwaki racing. As they got the last lap board Waters still had 3 seconds on O'Halloran who on the penultimate lap of the race set the fastest time with a 1-minute 38.1-second lap and then backed it up with a 1-minute 37.9-second lap on the final lap to miss out on setting a new 125 lap record by only two-hundredths of a second. In contrast Waters backed off a little on the last lap to make the win safe and crossed the line 2.1-seconds ahead of O'Halloran. |
