The 37th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix is being staged this weekend with a few Australian competitors making the trip over to mix it up with a strong British contingent along with a huge field of regular South East Asian competitors.

The boys from Mildura, Joshua Waters and Mick Kelly, are already putting in a strong showing around the highly technical 6.2 kilometre circuit.

Waters is fourth fastest while Mick Kelly was sixth quickest in their opening practice session.

Mick Kelly, "My first look at the circuit was last night when we got to drive around it in a car and it was a real eye opener for sure.

"We had a single 40 minute session today, which I used to try and learn some of the track, but with 25 turns it really is a hard ask to get your head around in just one session.

"Half the corners are first gear on the 125, with some hairpins the tightest I have ever seen, or even imagined.

"We have another 40 minute session tomorrow, which means we should be able to move up the order as the local guys that are in front of us already know the layout and are probably not all that likely to go a lot quicker, but we should pick up plenty of time as we get to know our way around.

"Then we have a 12 lap race on Saturday which will be fairly mentally draining, many of the corners are blind and when they aren't incredibly tight, they are insanely fast, and there is very little run off here if things turn nasty."

Australians are also putting in a strong showing in the SuperSport class with Cameron Donald only three-tenths behind British Championship regular Steve Plater.  Donald is riding a YZF-R6 and should be a good chance for a Supersport win at Macau.

Michael Rutter is a three time winner of the Superbike class at the Macau Grand Prix and he continued that form to be fastest today on his Renegade Ducati by a huge margin over John McGuinness who was the next quickest Superbike pilot.

Australian competitors are just not putting in a good showing on two wheels.  Young James Courtney is holding provisional pole for the Formula Three car race which is also a major drawcard of the Macau GP weekend.
