Michael Rutter set the fastest ever lap around the 6.12km Guia Circuit to qualify in pole position for tomorrow’s (Saturday), 37th running of the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Rutter, who had been fastest in both the opening practice and first qualifying session, went quicker still in the deciding timed period to lap at 2:27.833 seconds, half a second better than his own qualifying record set in 2002.

New Zealand newcomer Bruce Anstey was quickest in the Supersport 600 Class setting tenth fastest overall on his British-make Triumph, but Steve Plater (Honda) who was second-quickest and Australian Cameron Donald (Zong Shen Racing Yamaha) in third place, were less than a second slower.

Joshua Waters remained fourth quickest in the 125 ranks while Mick Kelly improved one position to qualify in fifth position.
