The 2003 SX Masters Kicked off today at the picturesque Central Coast Stadium with a practice/press day.

Formerly the home ground of the now defunct Northern Eagles Rugby League Team, the stadium can hold 25,000 plus, is right next to Gosford city centre and has the local harbour as a backdrop.

Only the factory riders were allowed to show off their new bikes, sponsors and race numbers today on an impressive track.  The layout would not be considered super technical, but it does have plenty of rhythm to it, with 2 straights having 6 jumps and 2 sets of stutters, with a double in between them.

Full Throttle Sports and multiple 125cc SX Champ, Troy Dorron Showed the step up to the open division is not going to be a problem.  He was the first rider to have a go at the biggest triple, and landed smoothly.

Paul Broomfield (on a 450F) and Shayne Metcalfe soon followed over the triple with both riders looking the goods.

Race day is this Saturday night and the event promises to be huge.

Who will win you ask?

In the 125cc class CDR/Boost Mobile/ Yamaha Rider and 2002 SX champ, Troy Carroll would be the odds on favourite to continue where he left off last year with Mitch Hoad, Robbie Marshall and Danny Anderson all expected to be running near the front.

It’s anyone’s guess in the open division, with the top two place getters from last year now racing overseas. Could it be the Veteran Troy Dorron? The refreshed Danny Ham? The stylish Shayne Metcalfe, or KTM’s young gun, Jay Marmont.

Stay tuned to mcnews.com.au where all will be revealed by Sunday morning.
