The 2003 Australian Supercross Championship moves to Victoria's Avalon Speedway next weekend (Feb 8) for round two of the action.

Team KTM's Jay Marmont started off the season strongly at Gosford for round one of the championship, but a fall in the final race prevented him from coming away with the round win.

Mayhem can erupt in the tightly packed Pro-Lites classInstead that honour went to O'Neal Honda's Shane Metcalfe, who, with fellow Honda pilot Troy Dorron, combined to take a 1-2 finish for Honda.

29-year-old Dorron hales from Geelong so this visit to the Avalon track will effectively be his local round.

Tough competition will come in the shape of Lee Hogan and Cameron Taylor (Boost Yamaha) ; Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd (Motorex KTM), Danny Ham and Jono Porter (Team Suzuki), while fronting up for Kawasaki will be Nathan Crawford and Jason Andrews.

Organisers promise the track to be one of the best seen in Australia.  1,200 metres long the layout features huge 70-foot jumps to keep the crowd entertained.

This year the thump of four-stroke machinery is also making an impact at Australian SX with Yamaha's YZ250F being a major feature in the Pro-Lites class.

In the Pro-Open class traditional 250cc two-strokes battle with 450cc four-strokes and it will be interesting to see who comes out in front.  But one suspects that in the tight cut and thrust of a SX arena the two-strokes will hold the edge.

Between the feature races will be the normal insanity presented by way of freestyle displays put on by Porter, Urek and Sinclair, to name a few.

The Yamaha girls will add to the attractions provided by trade exhibitions and a MX accessories clearance sale along with a fireworks display.

Avalon Speedway is 25 minutes from Melbourne heading down the Princess Freeway (Geelong Road).  Racing kicks off at 7pm next Saturday (Feb 8) but gates open at 5pm if you want to be early enough to get a great seat.

Adults will pay $20 to get in and children under 15 pay $15.  A family pass is available and includes tickets for 2 adults and 2 kids for $60.
