Pacifico SuperMoto Mark Avard struggled at the AMA National Supermoto event at the Reunion Arena, Dallas, ending up with a top ten finish in the main event. He currently is holding second in the championship, sandwiched between Jeff Ward and Jeremy McGrath.

Mark had a hard time getting on the pace in the fast circuit set out in the Reunion Arena in downtown Dallas. Significantly down on power compared to the other top machines, he rode the wheels off his Suzuki DRZ 450 to keep in the hunt. In his heat race, Mark had Ward, McGrath and Henry all riding. He finished a creditable fourth and transferring directly to the main event. Unfortunately, he would be gridded on the fourth row. Mark said; "It's going to be tough, there's going to be a lot of traffic to get through and I won't be able to do it on the straights!"

In the National Supermoto Championship main event, Mark's optimism proved correct. Fifteenth after the first lap, he rode possessed really hanging it out in the corners and on the brakes to move up six spots by the finish to claim ninth. Mark commented; "I was making up five to six bikes lengths on the corners but they would motor by me on the straights. By the time I worked my way up from my start position, the lead group had got away. I just did not have the motor to make it up. We should be getting a new motor for Irwindale so I'm looking forward to be right up front again!"

Next Race; AMA National Supermoto, Irwindale, California, November 1st 2003.
