2003 Supermotard Champion & former
500cc GP rider, Mark Willis has given Queensland's newest
supermotard circuit at the Toowoomba Kart Track a resounding "thumbs
up". "It combines speed with real motard "back in" corners. Spectator viewing is one of the circuits biggest assets, the crowd is so close at some points. Once the dirt section is finished we will have the country's best Supermotard circuit." The circuit is situated less than one hour from Brisbane in the Lockyer Valley. It combines a series of tight left & right hand bitumen sections with straights leading into 90 degree corners. The dirt section being constructed will prove challenging for Experts without intimidating novice riders, according to Series Coordinator Mark Battersby. "Our aim is for this to be Australia's premier Supermotard circuit - full stop!," said Battersby, "I have never seen 'motards slide as much as they did today. Willow (Mark Willis) and the Frog (Anton Lafforgue) were backing it in from 20 metres out." Queensland's Supermotard Champion Anton Lafforgue was equally as excited with the venue, "This is going to be big. Big slides, big crowds - the whole place is awesome. Its a credit to the Sporties club (Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld) for securing a venue like this." The Toowoomba Kart Club needs to be congratulated on having such a great facility and the foresight to see the potential benefits of supermotard. The Kart Club members have been extremely welcoming and enthusiastic about the coming series. The circuit has comprehensive facilities including camping grounds, canteen, large pit area and temporary grandstands. The action commences Australia Day long weekend (24th & 25th January 2004), with the circuit hosting Round 1 of "Supermotard Extreme 2004" Full entry details will be available shortly.
