With the clouds disappearing overnight, Sundays morning practice was held under blazing sunshine. A fairly incident free session, in front of an excited crowd, saw Jurgen Kunzel (GER-KTM) post the fastest time of 1:14:236 ahead of S1 race & pole-sitter Eddy Seel (BEL-Husqvarna) 1:14:558, Ivan Lazzarini (ITA-Husaberg) 1:14:562 and Gerald Delepine (BEL-Vertemati) 1:14:950.

Ivan Lazzarini (ITA-Rigo Husaberg) led from start to finish to claim the victory in the first race of the day at the Autodrom Sosnova in the FIM S1 Supermoto World Championship GP of the Czech Republic. Lazzarini grabbed the hole-shot into turn one ahead of Eddy Seel (BEL-Husqvarna) and Massimo Beltrami (ITA-Husqvarna) but, by the end of the first lap, both Jurgen Kunzel (GER-KTM) and the series leader, Boris Chambon (FRA-KTM) had managed to force their way past Beltrami to give chase to Lazzarini and Seel. Up front, Lazzarini controlled the race, quickly establishing a lead and maintaining it throughout. Despite Seel’s best efforts he was not able to impact on Lazzarini’s lead although he did manage to gain an advantage over third placed rider Jurgen Kunzel. At the flag, Lazzarini claimed an excellent win ahead of Eddy Seel and Jurgen Kunzel. The FIM S1Supermoto World Championship leader, Boris Chambon, finished fourth ahead of Massimo Beltrami.

With the temperature rising and in perfect conditions for racing, Ivan Lazzarini took full advantage of his pole position to register his second win of the day, here at the GP of the Czech Republic. Grabbing the hole-shot, Lazzarini led Eddy Seel, Massimo Beltrami and Jurgen Kunzel on a quick pace, around the first lap, that stretched the field out. By the time the front group had crossed the line, Kunzel had found a way past Beltrami for third. Once again Eddy Seel put up a spirited challenge all through the race, closing in on Lazzarini through the final laps. However, the impressive Lazzarini did enough to hold off Seel at the chequers and take the win. Jurgen Kunzel finished some way back in third ahead of Massimo Beltrami in fourth and Bernd Hiemer (GER-Zupin Husqvarna) in fifth.

SuperPole saw the top four riders on a timed lap to determine the order of the first row of the grid. Massimo Beltrami had an untidy lap that saw him post a time of 1:15:241. Next man up, Jurgen Kunzel was much tidier, although he could only register a 1:14:431. Eddy Seel put in a stunning lap, fully committed, that saw him post a 1:12:782. Despite trying hard, race 1 & 2 winner Ivan Lazzarini registered a 1:13:650, good enough for second place on the grid behind Seel.

Temperatures for the FIM S1 SuperFinal remained high despite some clouds as Eddy Seel (BEL-Husqvarna) claimed a comprehensive victory here at the GP of the Czech Republic. Seel used pole position to good advantage, launching himself into the lead ahead of Bernd Hiemer (GER-Zupin Husqvarna), Ivan Lazzarini (ITA-Rigo Husaberg) and Boris Chambon (FRA-KTM). Turning up the wick, in an effort to shake his pursuers, Seel quickly established an advantage over the rest of field, which he maintained throughout the 20 lap race. Behind him Lazzarini rode a lonely race in second, well ahead of Chambon, who had established a significant lead over the group battling for fourth. Fighting his way through the pack from ninth on the first lap, Gerald Delepine (BEL-Vertemati) eventually claimed fourth ahead of fifth placed finisher Massimo Beltrami (ITA-Husqvarna).

The combination of the days results means that Boris Chambon (FRA-KTM) 163 points, maintains his FIM S1 Supermoto World Championship lead, ahead of Jurgen Kunzel (GER-KTM) 155, Ivan Lazzarini (ITA-Rigo Husaberg) 138, Frederic Fiorentino (BEL-KTM Team Bizar) 124 and Eddy Seel (BEL-Husqvarna) 123.

Quotes from the Podium
Eddy Seel: ‘I’m so happy for me and my team; I have worked hard after Monza but I am still not 100%. I pushed Ivan (Lazzarini) hard in the first two races. In the SuperFinal I got a good start and pushed hard for the first laps. I was happy to see the rain, it slowed the pace and meant that I could recouperate! The break will be good - racing in the World Championship every week would be too difficult! I will be at 100% for Romania’.

Ivan Lazzarini: ‘The last ten laps were very difficult. I see the rain and I go slower to make sure I finish second. Two wins and a second place is not so bad’

Boris Chambon: ‘To finish third is a great result. I had not been fast all weekend and I crashed in the second race so I started the SuperFinal from the second row. I was in fourth at the start but I was running at the same pace as Ivan. After the rain came I didn’t want to crash so I settled for third and the points’.

KTM Report

The race day took place without Klaus Kinigadner, due to a heavy accident of its brothers son Hannes Kinigadner, Klaus decided not to participate. Hannes fell with the Motocross drives on Saturday and tightened themselves a heavy back injury. Klaus decided to leave the event to show the respect to his brother Heinz and its son Hannes.  "The complete team KTM agrees to 100% in this decision and accepts it to 100%." said Team Manager Peter Oettl.

Race 1
Jürgen Künzel wasn’t able to hold his third start position and fell behind his team mate Boris Chambon. Chambon was started like a rocket and pushed forward very hard. But Künzel fetched back his third position in the off road part and he wont give this up to the end of the race. He ride with powerful pressure forward but the leading Lazzarini and Seel did not afford any errors. Chambon was not able to go the pace like the leading but he ride a save fourth place with a little arrearage behind Künzel.
The goal for race 1 was fulfilled successfully: both KTM riders in the first starting row!

Race 2
The start to this race was even better for Jürgen Künzel, however the two leaders Lazzarini and Seel were a class for themself also in this run. Künzels pressure did not make more than a third place. Wildly drifting behind the leaders Künzel looses much time. Boris Chambon could go the speed of the pursuer field. But in the middle of the race he fell back due to an error in the off road part. With a merciless catching up hunt he came back to the pursuer and finishes on the eighth position.

Superfinal
With a good start both riders could make themselves on the pursuit of the leaders Seel, Hiemer and Lazzarini. Chambon pushed hard to Hiemer and could succeed against Künzel. Künzel also passed Hiemer and exerted much pressure on his teammate Chambon. Both could increase the speed and wins important time. Rain began and partly transformed the track into a very slippery affair. For the middle of the race however a defect at Künzels clutch throw him back. SUPERMOTO without a clutch is not possibly and the eleventh place is the maximally possible for Jürgen. Boris took speed out with arising rain and drove an error free running with the third position. With dry conditions it could have become still close for Lazzarini, because Chambon drove faster round times up to this time.

Statements after the race:
Boris Chambon: "The result is ok for me, in dry condition it could be even better, who knows. I’m very disappointed in the result of the second race because I had a crash in the off road part which throw me back some positions. When the rain arises I took out some speed because I don’t wanted to crash. The track was very slippery on some parts."

Jürgen Künzel: "The first two races were ok for me, I could ride a good and concentrated race with constant speed. The Superfinal was really disappointing for me. My clutch was broken and so I can’t fight with the others. The rain is ok for me but with this kind of defect you cannot run fast laps. That's sport, once you win, sometimes you loose."

Peter Öttl: "It is very unfortunate that Juergen had problems with the clutch. It was a material defect, which let him loose important positions. But my honest complement however to Jürgen because he finishes the race and took important points. Particularly unfortunate is however the loss, because both drivers were faster at that time than the leading and would have come possibly further."
