The two 999 Ducatis immediately hit the front while Laconi, Lavilla and Toseland gave chase.

As the laps progressed Hodgson, Xaus and Lavilla broke away from Laconi, Chili and Toseland with that the race order at half race distance.

Lavilla then dropped off the back of Hodgson and Xaus while with only a couple of laps remaining James Toseland was forced to retire with some sort of mechanical problem.

Hodgson led Xaus across the line to take the win.
