Jurgen Van der Goorbergh was the early leader from Muggeridge but the Australian only took half a lap to get the better of the Dutchman. Charpentier started well and Vermeulen recovered from an average start to move in to 3rd place late on lap one. Vermeulen sat in behind Goorbergh for a few laps before making his move up to 2nd place. Goorbergh hung on for lap after lap right behind Vermeulen before he put it up the inside of Vermeulen but then had to bail out less he take both him and Vermeulen out and what happened in the end was somehow he missed Vermeulen but spat himself high and hard over the bars on lap 7 of 16. Vermeulen then took the lead from Muggeridge for a lap before Muggeridge hit the front again. Meanwhile Katsuaki Fujiwara had closed right on to their tailpipes. At half race distance Vermeulen hit the lead again but Muggeridge and Fujiwara were still right with him. The Aussies traded places once again on the next lap, and again on the lap after that. Muggeridge then seemed nearly content to stay right on the tail of his team-mate as the laps counted down. Then on the final lap Muggeridge decided to make his move and hit the front. Fujiwara had drifted off the back of the Ten Kate pair and was coming under pressure from Chambon. Muggeridge held on after that last lap move to take the win while Fujiwara just managed to keep out Chambon for 3rd. Vermeulen now only needs very mediocre results in
the final two rounds in order to lift the World Championship.
