AMA Superbike

Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin broke his two-year-old lap record today at the Barber Motorsports Park after lapping the 2.38-mile circuit at 1:25.046 to earn pole position for today and tomorrow's two AMA Superbike Nationals.

The Australian started the session at the very top of the time sheets and he stayed there the entire time, ending up beating his team mate Ben Spies by nearly a second, the Texan ending up second fastest with his 1:25.954.

Third place went to Barber first-timer Neil Hodgson on his Austin Ducati mount, the Brit lapping at 1:25.980 as Mladin, Spies and Hodgson were the only riders to circulate under the 1:26 mark.

The third Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000, ridden by Aaron Yates, will complete the front row of the grid for the two races after the Georgian lapped at 1:26.417 for the fourth-quickest time.

Fifth place went to American Honda's Miguel Duhamel, the French Canadian's best a 1:26.994 - over a second slower than his 2004 qualifying time last year.

Behind Duhamel came Jordan Motorsports' Jason Pridmore on his GSX-R1000 after recovering from his high-speed crash yesterday to finish the final session sixth, relegating the Ducati of Eric Bostrom and the factory Honda of Jake Zemke to seventh and eighth places.
