CDR/Nokia/Yamaha’s Darryll King has tied on points for third place at the penultimate round of the Maxxis Australian Motocross Championship in Adelaide today after riding the second pro open moto with a suspected broken foot.

The reigning champion had a sensational first race, recording the fasted laps of the race on his way to finishing third behind Craig Anderson and Daryl Hurley.

The tables turned for King in the second moto after a horror start to the race left the veteran rider stranded dead last.

King completely missed the jump on the start and got tangled in a first turn accident which left him at the back of the thirty strong field.

While fighting his way through the pack mid race King’s foot jammed in a rut leaving the Kiwi rider with a suspected broken foot

Despite the pain King continued on, clawing his way back to finish third behind Daryl Hurley and his younger brother Shayne King.

King said x-rays tomorrow morning would determine his championship fate.

“Hopefully what I am feeling is not broken,” King said. “I really want to be right for Conondale it is my favourite track and I have won four out of the past five rounds there.

“The foot is really swollen at the moment and I won’t know the extent of the damage until I go and have an x-ray done tomorrow.

“With only five points between myself and Daryl Hurley the championship is still wide open,” he said.

“All the pre event preparation paid off I was the fasted guy out there and the bike was just awesome.

“I let myself down today with gate selection in the second race which in all honesty cost us a round win,” King added.

The woes continued for King’s team mate Troy Carroll who failed to finish inside the top ten in both pro lites races.

Team owner Craig Dack said Carroll and the CDR/Nokia/Yamaha team would turn their attention to retaining the title in the forthcoming Supercross Masters Championship.

“It has been a horror season for Troy and we have exhausted ourselves trying to turn things around for him,” Dack said.

“We now have to write off the motocross season and turn our attention to working with Troy to retaining the Supercross Masters championship.

“Athletes go through form slumps I think the change in tact will be just what Troy needs to turn his form slump around,” Dack said.

Serco Yamaha

Serco Yamaha’s Cameron Taylor has extended his championship lead to forty-three points after finishing third at the penultimate round of the Maxxis Australian Motocross Championship in Adelaide today.

Taylor won the first thirty minute moto in spectacular style after a first corner incident left him back in tenth place.

The Serco Yamaha rider worked his way through the front runners then passed race leader Warren Smart on the final lap of the race to take the win ahead of Smart and third placed Ryan Marmont.

During the moto Taylor got dirt in his right eye that required flushing by paramedics following the race.

The Victorian rider rode a courageous second race with poor visibility after scratches to his right eye sustained in race one caused it to water throughout race.

With blurred vision Taylor was forced to ride cautiously as he struggled to pick out ruts and lines on the Gilman track.

Taylor finished fifth behind race winner Cody Cooper, Luke Burkhart, Warren Smart and Ryan Marmont.

Taylor said he while he was disappointed he couldn’t challenge properly in the second moto he was happy with his overall results.

“In the overall scheme of things it was a great day for the team,” Taylor said. “We have increased our championship lead and in reality all we need to do is show up next weekend at Conondale and the championship is ours.

“I was disappointed I couldn’t achieve the goal I set myself today, I have won overalls and won moto’s this year but not a clean sweep of an event. Unfortunately with blurred vision I had to ride a bit cautiously in the second race today and still haven’t achieved that goal.

Cody Cooper won today’s round and despite tying on points with Warren Smart for second overall Taylor was awarded third after the count back rule was applied.

Taylor and his Brisbane based team now lead the championship by forty-three points with one round remaining at Queensland’s Conondale circuit next weekend.
