The Australian Superbike Championship travelled west to the Barbagallo race circuit at Wanneroo, in Western Australia and continued to entertain huge audiences at Round 3 of the championship last weekend. The weather was fine and sunny, with temperatures in the mid 20’s over all three days, great for the spectators and racers alike. The Premiere Superbike class was the fiercest and fullest in years, providing the audience with a mountain of action before their eyes.

Friday Practice saw Scott on the pace early, finishing the session 6th quickest on a 57.231. With only 5 tenths of a second separating 2nd place from Scott in 6th place, it appeared the season was only getting better in the way of fierce competitiveness between the Factory Teams and Privateer riders. In second practice Scott improved by a half a second only to be pushed back to 7th quickest for the day, again half a second separating 2nd position from 9th position, absolutely unheard of in recent years of Australia’s national level racing!

Saturday’s first qualifying session saw Scott improve by another half a second on his Friday times to position himself 7th quickest. With Scott hoping to go quicker again, he made a few suspension changes, unfortunately it stalled Scott’s progress and he was unable to better his first session time, slipping him back to 10th position and set to start the race from the 3rd row.

It certainly seemed it was going to be an anything can happen weekend and that is exactly how it panned out with the Racing providing a mix of Privateers and Factory riders among the top ten. Race 1 was a two-part race, working on combined times. In Part 1 of Race 1 whilst running in 8th position Scott narrowly avoided an accident only to run off the track, Scott was able to rejoin the circuit in 8th position, after eight laps the race was red flagged and brought to a halt.

Race 1 was re-started for part 2, a twelve-lap race in which Scott managed to work his way up to a very comfortable 6th position. On completion of Part 2 Scott was placed in 6th position on combined times. Unfortunately due to the run off and re-join in Race 1, Part 1 Scott was penalised and put back to 9th position.

Race 2, Scott went out to make amends for Race 1 and finished in 5th position. However, due to his penalty in Race 1, Scott was relegated back to 7th overall for the weekend with 28 points and 2nd Privateer for Round 3. Scott currently sits in 6th position in the Australian Superbike Championship and is leading the Privateer cup.

Overall, Scott is very happy with the NEW 2005 Suzuki GSXR-1000 and is looking forward to spending some more time on the bike, concentrating on development and set up. Scott hopes to improve his results and move further up the field at the next round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Mallala, in South Australia on June 3rd – June 5th 2005.
