| Swiss sensation Thomas
Luthi starts from his fifth pole position of the year
and this certainly bode well for the Honda man as on the
previous four occasions where he started from pole he
had gone on to victory. If he does manage to take the
win he will end an amazing run of 53 races where no
rider in the 125cc class has managed to take back to
back victories.
Hector Faubel started alongside Luthi on the front row after his best ever qualifying results while Mika Kallio and Mattia Pasini round out the front row. This is the 12th time this year that Kallio as started from the front row while Pasini starts from the front row for the 11th time in succession. KTM are currently leading the constructor's championship and will win the title if any KTM rider manages to finish third or higher and in front of all the Honda riders in Turkey. This would mark the first time since 1988 that the title has been won by a manufacturer other than Honda or Aprilia. Luthi continued where he had left off in Australia by leading a gaggle of KTM's around the first lap but this time around there would be no immediate escape act as by the time they started the second lap Mika Kallio had taken the lead from Luthi while Gadea had slotted into third ahead of Di Meglio and Talmacsi. Luthi then got shuffled back to fourth late on the second lap as Mike Di Meglio hit the front. The race looked to be shaping up as a cracker with the Turkish layout not affording any of the 125cc men a chance to escape from the melee unfolding up front. A couple of laps later Hector Faubel highsided in front of his team-mate Sergio Gadea which took both of them out of the race. Luthi took the lead again on lap five of the 19 lap race while putting in a new fastest lap of the race. It was not enough for the Swiss rider to break away however as on the next lap the leading gaggle of five riders were running side by side five wide at some points around the circuit and by the end of the lap it was two KTM's leading the way once again with the race order being Kallio, Luthi, Di Meglio, Pasini, Talmacsi while not far behind in sixth place was Koyama. In fact by the halfway point of the race Koyama had joined the fight up front to turn it into a six way battle for the lead. The six way battle went all the way to the line with Luthi starting the penultimate lap at the back of that leading group but as they started the final lap it was Luthi leading the way. Mika Kallio then crashed out early on that last lap which made it possible for Luthi to wrap up the world championship with any podium result. The Swiss rider was shuffled back to the back of the pack later on that last lap though which put paid to that chance and he crossed the line in fifth place which means that the championship will go down to the final round at Valencia in a fortnight's time where basically only a failure to finish would see Luthi lose the title to Kallio. Mike Di Meglio took his first ever race win ahead of Pasini and Aoyama while Talmacsi came home fourth.
