Lorenzo was the early race leader from Barbera, Pedrosa and De Angelis. A couple of laps later Pedrosa had moved up to second place while Stoner had started a march forward to move up to fourth place and started haggling Barbera for third place. Stoner got that third place on lap seven and set out after Pedrosa and Lorenzo but had his work cut out for him to try and close the significant two second gap the leading duo had pulled out and had a few slides while trying to make up the difference. Pedrosa took the lead with 14 laps to run. Stoner had broken away from Barbera to the tune of three seconds but had yet to make any significant inroads to the leading duo. After Pedrosa hit the front Lorenzo stayed with him for a lap but then the world champion stepped it up a gear and started pulling away to the tune of nearly half a second lap after setting and then resetting the lap record lap after lap. With eight laps to run Pedrosa had built a two second buffer over Lorenzo and Stoner was a further seven seconds adrift in third place but had a couple of seconds over fourth placed De Angelis. Pedrosa went on to take a dominant win over Lorenzo and Stoner rounded out the podium. Both Pedrosa and Stoner reportedly off to the MotoGP class next year with Pedrosa to join Hayden in the Repsol HRC squad and Stoner apparently being courted by both Yamaha and Camel Honda.
