MCNEWS.COM.AU - The ultimate in motorcycle news

Unedited notes from our live reporting - Start from the bottom and read up

  • 1428 - Charpentier the winner by 3.5 seconds over Curtain and Foret wins the battle for 3rd place, Fujiwara scores 4th. Vd Goorbergh a long way behind in 5th ahead of Stigefelt and Broc Parkes who bravely battled through the pain stemming from his horrible off yesterday
  • 1426 - Only a couple of laps to run and Charpentier now has 2.6 seconds on Kev who in turn has 7.5 seconds on the duo fighting it out for 3rd so it seems the top two are already decided and it is only Foret and Fujiwara left to tussle to the line for a podium
  • 1424 - Fabrizio crashes out of the battle for 3rd leaving Foret and Fujiwara to fight it out for that final spot on the podium
  • 1422 - Kev loses more time on that next lap to Charpentier.  He gave it everything he had to try and take it to Charpentier all the way but perhaps was having to ride over and beyond the limit to stay with the Ten Kate man and perhaps has realised that he is never going to win a drag race to the line against the Honda and is possibly settling for what is certainly a safe 20 points for 2nd...
  • 1420 - Charpentier gained half a second over Kev on that lap.  The pair now have 7 seconds over the battle for 3rd.  Can Kev come back at Charpentier to challenge for the win?  At this stage of the game I would have to say probably not but you can never count Curtain out of the game
  • 1418 - Kev right on his pipe around the back of the circuit and was nearly close enough to try for a pass on the run down to MG but didn't attempt it and actually lost some ground on the initial acceleration out of the extremely tight right hander which Charpentier capitalised on all the way through turns 11 and 12 to make a tiny bit of ground back on Kev.
  • 1417 - Kev gets a tenth back on that next lap and right back on the tail of Charpentier, the Ten Kate man can't shake him
  • 1415 - A 1m37.4 for Charpentier that time around to Kev's 1m37.5, the gap between the men now 0.377 of a second and they now have 4 seconds on that battle for 3rd being waged behind them
  • 1413 - Kev not in the slipstream this time around but still only a couple of lengths from Charpentier who is really putting in a big effort to try and break away.  This paid have 3 seconds over the battle for 3rd which is being waged by Foret, Fabrizio and Fujiwara
  • 1410 - Kev came on to the straight that time right up Charpentier's clacker and pulled out just before they tipped in to turn 1 and was halfway alongside the Ten Kate machine but Charpentier swept across on the race line and held his lead. That two gave Kev the highest top speed thus far in the race by anyone with 272kph. These windy conditions really knocking some of the top end out of the bikes as some machines his 290kph earlier in the weekend
  • 1409 - Curtain still sticking to Charpentier's tail as the pair again the only men in the 1m37s
  • 1407 - Foret's 4th place really being challenged by Fujiwara now. Charpentier still in the lead from Kev who is only 2-tenths adrift of the Ten Kate man. This pair have started pulling away from Fabrizio, Foret and Fujiwara now
  • 1404 - Still Charpentier, Curtain, Fabrizio, Foret, Fujiwara the top 5 and running together
  • 1403 - Kev back up to 2nd at Honda Corner, Charpentier not getting away and the top five are covered by less than a second
  • 1401 - Fabrizio pushes Kev back to 3rd, Foret right there with them now also and Fujiwara looks as though he might also gatecrash the party
  • 1400 - Charpentier the leader but not getting away, Kev right on his tail and in turn Fabrizio on his pipe then a couple of bike lengths to Foret. Side by side down the straight go Charpentier and Curtain but Charpentier holds the advantage into turn 1
  • 1359 - Charpentier took the lead and held it for nearly half a lap but Kev got him in turn 1 the next time around and then under the bridge they go nearly 3 wide, Curtain, Charpentier, Fabrizio and Foret right there behind them
  • 1357 - Kev responds though and maintain half a second over his pursuers as they come round for another lap but then through the first series of turns they catch him up a little
  • 1356 - Charpentier up to 2nd place now and starting to close on Kev
  • 1355 - Kev to the lead and immediately starts to pull a few bike lengths on Fabrizio and Charpentier
  • 1353 - Kevin Curtain gets off the line well but it is Fabrizio leading through turn one, Kev tries to get him at turn 2 but can't quite manage it, thinks about it under the bridge but again can't do it, he then gets taken by Foret momentarily before getting him straight back
  • 1351 - World Supersport bikes winding down their warm up lap now
  • 1336 - World Supersports on the grid now with tyre warmers on
  • 1324 - Slight spray of rain blew in and out quickly
  • 1318 - And now it looks as though the rain is blowing in...
  • 1315 - The start of the World Supersport race has been delayed due to 'safety reasons' which I presume refers to the wind
