Corser again off the line well but this time around Andrew Pitt slotted into the first turn in the lead from Corser and Vermeulen to make it Aussie 1-2-3 through the first turns once again. Walker was on a mission and quickly moved through on Abe to take 4th place. Andrew Pit's Yamaha looks to be a match for the speed of Corser's Suzuki in a straight line as they went down the main straight to start lap two but a couple of corners into that second lap Corser too his customary for 2005 position at the head of the field.

Chris Vermeulen was looking for a way past Andrew Pitt.  Karl Muggeridge was running 5th and looking for an opportunity to squeeze past Norick Abe.

Vermeulen made his move on Pitt and Chris Walker nearly managed to follow him through. Vermeulen immediately started to pull way from Pitt in an effort to try and not let Corser do his escape act.  Garry McCoy ended his race in the kitty litter.

Corser not clearing out this time around and Vermeulen actually managed to pull a couple of tenths back out of his compatriot on lap five to bring the margin back down to around a single second. Pitt and Walker not really losing touch with the back of Vermeulen either so this race could turn out to be a bit of a surprise.  Haga had pushed Muggeridge back to 6th place and was looking for a way past Abe.  Chris Walker was hounding Pitt for 3rd place.

Corser responded to Vermeulen's challenge and by lap 10 had stretched the gap out to a full two seconds.  Vermeulen certainly couldn't be accused of not trying however as his rear Pirelli always seemed to be doing a lot more revolutions than the front one; the two ends of the bike only seemed to be heading in the same direction when heading down the main straight as the Fireblade was sideways around every corner and half the time Vermeulen had it cranked over on his knee at the same time as the back was hanging out which made for some great vision.

Walker finally made a move stick on Andrew Pitt and then upped his pace further to start actually clawing some ground back not only on Vermeulen but also on race leader Troy Corser.  The gap between Walker and Vermeulen was just over a second while the gap to Corser was three seconds but with ten laps to run and Walker putting down some very fast times it seemed a possibility that the Briton might be able to pull off a huge surprise.

Walker's Kawasaki certainly looked to be steering extremely well with Walker's advantage on Vermeulen certainly seemed to be on corner entry rather than exit and he certainly looked to be having an easier time of it than the Honda man.  While Walker certainly looks potentially much faster than Vermeulen getting past the young Aussie would certainly be no easy task.  If he did find a way past it did seem likely that he would walk away from Vermeulen.  Walker being held up by Vermeulen is working in the favour of Corser who is stretching his lead out further.  No luck for Karl Muggeridge as he went out of the race to add insult to the injury of being run off the circuit by an errant Neukirchner in the opening race.

Vermeulen battling to hold off Walker and Corser capitalising on that battle behind him to stretch his lead to over four seconds.

Ben Bostrom seeing a little bit of light at what has been a very dark 2005 tunnel for the American with 8th place finally pointing to some progress with his race package.  Pitt had drifted back to 7th place after making a mistake under brakes.

In the final couple of laps Vermeulen managed to gain a couple of bike lengths over Walker while Corser again used the final lap to completely torture his rear Pirelli in a cloud of smoke out of some of the turns and again picks the front wheel up onto the main straight to celebrate another victory.

Vermeulen a hard fought 2nd place and Chris Walker an encouraging 3rd. Haga got the better of Abe for 4th while Bostrom scored 6th and Kagayama 7th while Pitt faded to 8th.
