After almost 10 years the World Superbike Championship comes back to Brno with Pirelli. A thorough circuit, with difficult undulations that will stress the engines and will surely offer a great show.

The Czech race is following the Italian round dominated by Regis Laconi who took a double victory with his Ducati999F05 trying to close the gap with Troy Corser, leader of the Championship with his Suzuki GSXR. The main challengers of this season are also Chris Vermeulen (he’s second in the Championship) with his Honda CBR1000RR, Yukio Kagayama (Corser’s team mate, fourth) and James Toseland, the Ducati Champion, fifth.

The battle in Brno will also include Karl Muggeridge (Honda) that seems to have reached now a good feeling with his SBK bike, Chris Walker, always aggressive with his Kawasaki ZX10R of the PSG-1 team, and Yamaha R1 rider Noriyuki Haga, already on the podium this season.

A very positive outlook for this Championship, with all the Manufacturers now competitive and ready to offer a great show. In Misano the riders, even if suffering the strong sun, offered a good performance, and the tyres played their part without any trouble in the 53 degrees of Santamonica circuit.

Pirelli and the development teams made some testing in the Brno racetrack after the race of Misano, still with the high temperature at the top of the issues but with Misano’s background.

There will be then for the SBK riders 5 different front solutions instead of usual 3, like the second medium tyre (already on the podium in Misano, with the medium spec. compound but on a harder carcass), a hard compound already well known by the riders and a new tyre especially made for durability in order to face the high wear of this track and already tested here, derived from the World Endurance experience (Oschersleben ’04).

Also the rear range is important and presents some news. Pirelli brings 3 solutions: a new one already tested in here and the week after in the Italian CIV championship, a dual compound like the one used in Misano round but with inverted parts (with the softer compound on the right side), and a solution already well known by the riders that will help them in finding the right setup of the bike.

There will be then 2 qualifying tyres (a traditional one and a multi-compound solution), an intermediate and two rain tyres.

Talking about the sizes the bikes will be fitted with 120/70 as front tyre and 190/65 as rear. There won’t be the “big” 200/50 of Misano that will be again tested in Lausitz on next week.

Rain and Intermediate tyres are made with a different profile, they are 195/65 tyres that do not need as much shoulder as the slicks do.
