Corser again got a great run off the line with Karl Muggeridge tucked in behind while Haga, Toseland, Laconi, Pitt, Vermeulen and Walker gave chase through the first series of turns around the undulating Brands Hatch layout.  Haga got Muggeridge and the Honda man highsided himself out of the race shortly thereafter trying to screw the power back down to get the better of the Yamaha man.

Haga then closed on Corser and the Yamaha man took him around the outside under power with the pair rubbing shoulders onto the straight and Haga virtually leaning on Corser's shoulder all the way on to the straight, more of Haga's body seemed to be on Corser's Suzuki than on his own Yamaha for a short while.

Corser and Haga then recommenced the duel they started in race one taking turns to lead while Toseland was their next closest foe was James Toseland who was over 2 seconds behind the leading pair after five laps were down.  Andrew Pitt was not too much further behind in fourth place just ahead of Regis Laconi, Chris Vermeulen and Chris Walker.

Over the next five laps Haga managed to stay in front of Corser but his R1 was out of shape at all sorts of angles and the Japanese pilot was momentarily bounced a couple of inches off his seat but as soon as he had got out of the throttle and saved it he was no sooner straight back in the throttle and sliding before his bum had even touched the seat again.  Haga could certainly never be accused of not trying hard enough.

The battle for the final step on the podium was intense with Vermeulen, Toseland, Laconi, Walker and Pitt all running nose-to-tail and regularly swapping their order as they waged their own war more than five seconds behind the leading duo of Haga and Corser as the race approached the halfway point.

Chris Vermeulen managed to break away from the gaggle of riders fighting over third place to make that spot all his own after pulling out well over a second on fourth placed Laconi who had got the better of Toseland for fourth place. A lap later Chris Walker pushed Toseland back a further spot to sixth place just ahead of Andrew Pitt who then managed to push the reigning World Champion back to seventh place on lap 17 of the 25 lap race.  Walker really started to challenge Laconi for fourth place.  The Briton got the better of the Frenchman two laps later to promote himself to that fourth place.

With three laps to run Haga and Corser had seven seconds on third placed Vermeulen who was having a lonely latter half of the race with a four second advantage over fourth placed Chris Walker.

As they started the last lap Corser was a couple of bike lengths behind a wildly sliding Noriyuki Haga but had the gap down to nothing as they entered the latter half of the lap.  Corser got his nose in front momentarily but Haga got him back, then Corser again got him back, then Corser an off the circuit and onto the grass but regained the track after running through some kitty litter and in the end having a lucky controlled save to hang on to his second position.  That could have ended up very nasty indeed but Corser again managed to increase his championship lead over Chris Vermeulen to 110 points.  Vermeulen's third place extends his advantage over Laconi in the series standings to 20 points.
