Sebastien Charpentier capitalised on his pole position to lead the field through the first turns ahead of his team-mate Katsuaki Fujiwara and fellow Honda rider Michel Fabrizio who soon promoted himself to second place after passing Fujiwara a few turns later. Kevin Curtain was holding down fifth place on the first lap and looking to try and challenge Danish Honda rider Robin Harms for fourth place but a lap later that plan was quashed when Fabien Foret pushed Curtain back to sixth place to make it a Honda 1-2-3-4-5 up front.

Fujiwara took second place back from Fabrizio and over the next few laps closed to within striking distance of his team-mate and started to threaten for the race lead. He managed to do exactly that a couple of laps later before then getting a little too sideways into one of the right handers and was forced to stand it up and nearly ran off the circuit and the time lost from that mistake had pushed him back to fourth place just in front of Kevin Curtain who had got the better of Robin Harms for fifth place a lap earlier. This group of five remained close together for the majority of the rest of the race with Charpentier's lead coming under increasing attacks from a charging Fabien Foret while Fujiwara promoted himself up to third place as they passed the halfway point of the race.

As they entered the final quarter of the race there was still only a single second covering the entire top five on the track with Charpentier, Foret, Fujiwara, Fabrizio and Curtain the protagonists. A disaster for Fujiwara a couple of laps later however as he ran wide and it seemed as though some sort of problem was giving him some trouble with his Ten Kate machine.

As they started the final lap the battle for the lead was still going hammer and tong with Foret and Charpentier fighting it out for the win while a little further behind Kevin Curtain was doing his best to get the better of Fabrizio for the final step on the podium.

Foret took the win from Charpentier while Fabrizio managed to fend off Curtain's challenges to take third place. Fujiwara came home a relatively distant fifth place.

Charpentier's 20 points for second place is good enough for the Frenchman to be crowned the 2005 World Supersport Champion with three rounds in the series still remaining such has been his dominance this year.
