Kawasaki rider Daniel Reardon has taken out both races in the final round of the Nokia MX Nationals in Queensland, to finish the championship in second place overall.

With the series having already been decided in the penultimate round, 2006 Champion Craig Anderson chose not to take part in the final round so that he could nurse a persistent hand injury.

With first place already stitched up, all eyes looked towards the battle for second and third with Reardon holding a seven point lead over Honda’s Cody Cooper coming into the Coolum event.

The 20-year-old capped off a fantastic finish to the season by first claiming pole in qualifying, and then winning the first race by 14 seconds.

Reardon did not let up in the second race winning it by a whopping 53 seconds to finish with the number one plate for the meet, and the second overall championship placing.

Cooper didn’t have a great day on the circuit, failing to finish the first race and coming 26th in the second, ending the championship in third place, ahead of Daryl Hurley and Daryll King.

The CDR Nokia team ended the season in wonderful fashion, with Yamaha riders Matt Moss and King grabbing second and third in the opening race, while King managed the runner-up mantle in the second.

Cheyne Boyd also great day out for the team with his fourth placing’s in both races enough to give him third overall for the meet, with King second overall.
Honda rider Craig Carmichael finished third in the second race which was enough to get him into fourth overall.

In the Pro Lites, Motorex KTM rider Ryan Marmont wrapped up the championship in emphatic style, winning both of the round races to finish 47 points clear of his nearest rival, Cameron Taylor.

The result of this year’s championship was a direct reversal of last year’s, when Taylor outclassed Marmont for the title.

Honda rider Troy Dorron was quite a way behind Taylor in third position.

New Zealand’s Emma Davis has won the inaugural Loan Australian Women's Championship, after two seconds and a third was enough to see her into first place for the Championship.

Winner of the two races in the first round, Kristy Gillespie had a nightmare finish to the series having won all of the first four races.

However, during the final race, a mechanical problem had her pushing her bike over the line to finish the race in 18th spot, and claim third overall in the series.

Adelia Barton was runner up for the series after a great day of racing which included coming third, second and first in the three races of round two..

What they said:

Daniel Reardon:
“I’m really happy the way the season has gone. It took a while to get the first win on the board but we’ve done well since, so I’m really happy. I felt good and rode well, the first race I got a bit of arm pump but in the second it was one of the best rides all year. It was tough, the ruts were really deep with the weather, but the bike worked well and it was great.”

Darryll King:
“This is definitely a result I had been chasing for my last round in the Australian series, the win would have topped it off but second is fantastic also, the bike has just been superb from the outset. A couple of good starts across both moto's ensured that I would run with the lead pack and I felt I did so very comfortably.”

Cheyne Boyd:
"I am happy to finish the season a lot better than when I first started - my speed has definitely picked up over the last three rounds. I made my way to second in the first moto and hit a wall and went backwards after that. In the second moto I crashed all by myself, but that's motocross and the good thing about it was that I didn't get hurt."

Craig Anderson:
“It was great to come along this weekend and be a spectator for a change. My hand is getting better each day and I’m confident it will be okay for Supercross. We all put in a strong effort all year and not only won the title, but also finished with another podium in each class.”

Ryan Marmont:
“I couldn’t be happier with the results. A combination of family support from my folks, a great bike, an awesome mechanic with Danny Apro, and team encouragement from Motorex KTM Racing we got there. It was a total team effort but I put in the hard yards. I was hungry for this Championship title after finishing runner up last year.”
