CDR/Nokia/Yamaha and Serco Yamaha have rounded out the final outing of the Nokia MX Nationals for 2006 in style today, with both factory Yamaha Racing teams delivering a double podium result.

Round 10 of the national series was contested this weekend at Coolum's Quanda Road Motocross Facility, with damp conditions providing the perfect platform for the Pro Open and Pro Lite competitors to score solid results.

The factory outfits had made their intentions for the weekend known prior to the race, and delivered on all fronts, with Darryll King and Cheyne Boyd recording 2nd and 3rd and Jake Moss and Cameron Taylor also recording 2nd and 3rd for their respective teams.

The results are a fitting reward for the teams, who, under the direction of Craig Dack and Gavin Eales have worked incredibly hard throughout the season.

CDR/Nokia/Yamaha has ended the season finale on a high note, occupying two steps of the podium at today's final round of the Nokia MX Nationals from Coolum.

Darryll King and Cheyne Boyd paired up to take positions two and three on the dais, a fitting conclusion to the 2006 series in which they demonstrated they were a force to be reckoned with at any track across the country.

'DK' had vowed to end the season with a top-placed finish and didn't disappoint, with a 3rd placing in moto 1 behind teammate Matt Moss and a 2nd placing in moto 2 awarding him a haul of points good enough for 2nd overall.

King enjoyed the damp conditions which he felt suited his particular style of riding and adapted to the surface instantly.

"This is definitely a result I had been chasing for my last round in the Australian series, the win would have topped it off but second is fantastic also, the bike has just been superb from the outset," said King.

"A couple of good starts across both moto's ensured that I would run with the lead pack and I felt I did so very comfortably."

For much of the opening moto teammates Matt Moss, King and Boyd were racing each other for the top placings and the trio did an excellent job to deliver 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Moss began the moto with a convincing holeshot on the way to an impressive second place finish.

Drama struck when he was hit behind while enjoying another strong run in the final moto for the day, but in his typical style he forged on regardless, grabbing the final position in the top ten, which incidentally was just one place behind Ford Dale.

"I'm a little disappointed to have had my run of podiums cut short today, especially seeing as though I was definitely in line for one after the first race," said Moss.

"I felt very comfortable this weekend and confident to challenge Reardon when the moment came up but it was not to be."

"My Yamaha was awesome and helped me make a mark in the races, its a great bike and the team always does an excellent job of preparing it."

Ford Dale also had the measure of the top 10 riders but encountered a few hiccoughs of his own, with some slower riders completely halting his progress.

He still managed to record 7th overall for the weekend, rounding out another rock solid weekend of racing for the factory Pro Open team.

At the conclusion of the 2006 Nokia MX Nationals, Darryll King is placed 5th, Cheyne Boyd 6th, Matt Moss 9th and Ford Dale 11th.

Serco Yamaha

Serco Yamaha proved equal to the challenge set down by the Pro Open riders, taking their own double podium in fine style at the final round of the Pro Lites class from Coolum today.

Jake Moss led proceedings for Gavin Eales' Brisbane-based team, taking two solid 3rd placings across the two motos to slot into 2nd for the round.

Aside from the individual round spoils, Moss did his championship campaign no harm by adding a further bag of points, securing a top six finish in what has been an eye-opening year for the teenager.

The grit and tenacity of Moss was exhibited today as he overcame a few minor incidents to remount his bike and maintain a charge towards the front. He even managed to push on after finding his bike stuck in gear after coming down heavily and damaging vital components.

"I really worked hard for this result today and knew I needed a clean and consistent but equally fast run if I was going to finish on the podium again," said Moss.

"The reliability and handling of the YZ250F was fantastic and it allowed me to push on even after I had come off and bent the clutch lever."

"I think I've had a fairly steady run into the last few rounds and this 2nd place is a good reward for all the hard work I've put in, as well as a thank you to the Serco Yamaha team for the support."

Cameron Taylor kept his run of top results coming today, once again finishing up in 3rd place for the round.

Taylor had a slim chance of still contesting for the Pro Lites title but had to settle for being runner-up after a weekend of much promise became disrupted by constant problems with his vision and goggle system.

He was pleased to have maintained his second placing in the series but was left to rue what could have been should a small amount of luck had fallen his way.

"It's another good result for the team here today, we're constantly standing up and showing we have a very strong rider lineup and the final championship positions reflect this pretty well," said Taylor.

"I'm obviously a little disappointed to not have been able to defend my 2005 title but it really was very close, my bike has always worked particularly well and there's no doubt that the reliability and performance of the Yamaha helped me in my hunt this season."

Robbie Marshall rounded out Serco Yamaha's impressive Coolum campaign, sealing the deal for a top 5 finish for the team.

5th and 6th placings in moto 1 and 2 respectively netted Marshall a valuable point score and 5th overall for the round, while he retained his 4th place in the championship as the standings became official.

Yamaha Racing's factory riders will have little time now to contemplate 'the season that was', and will back up next weekend for the much anticipated Brisbane Supercross Masters round of competition.
