Craig Anderson (CRF 450) and Ryan Marmont (KTM250SXF) have dominated the fourth round of the Nokia MX Nationals with both riders recording a clean sweep in the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes respectively at Conondale’s Green Park Motocross circuit today.

Anderson stamped his authority on the Pro Open proceedings early, with the No Fear Honda rider winning both motos in a spectacular fashion. Throughout the first moto the multiple Australian motocross champion was able to hold out his team-mate, Cody Cooper (CRF 450) and an extremely fast Daniel Reardon (KX450F).

The second moto victory did not come as easy, with Anderson beating Team Shift Motul Suzuki rider, Daryl Hurley to the chequered flag after a mammoth battle in the final stages of the race. Once again Reardon rounded out the top three providing the Kawasaki Racing rider with valuable championship points.

With two moto victories under his belt, Anderson recorded his first round victory of 2006 with defending champion and current series leader, Hurley finishing second. Reardon once again showed that he is also a contender in the fierce championship chase by finishing third overall.

Anderson’s position today has helped him to close the championship lead established by Hurley over the first three rounds of the Nokia MX Nationals and now the Honda rider is only sixteen points off the lead on one-hundred-and-sixty-one. Reardon has improved his overall position and is now third with one-hundred-and-thirty-two points.

In the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites, Marmont conquered the competition by taking victory in both motos. However, the Motorex KTM rider was not left unchallenged with round three winner, Mitch Hoad (KX250F) taking the race lead prior to disaster striking and his Kawasaki being forced to retire due to mechanical problems.

No Fear Honda rider, Troy Dorron (CRF 250) rode consistently around the Conondale grass track and was inside the top two for both motos. Serco Yamaha team mates, Cameron Taylor (YZ250F) and Jake Moss (YZ250F) rounded out the top three in the first and second races respectively.

Marmont’s spectacular riding guaranteed him the round victory today, with Troy Dorron making another welcomed appearance at the podium presentation. Moss recorded his best round result for 2006 by completing the top three for the weekend.

Marmont’s consistent approach to the year continues to pay him dividends and as a result he leads the Maxxis Pro Lites Championship with one-hundred-and-sixty-six points. He is followed by Dorron, who is eighteen points in arrears with defending champion, Taylor in third position.

The second round of the Motul National Cup also produced its fair share of action with Tom Ovens (CRF250) further extending his championship lead to seventy-eight points. Series debutant Jarrod Long (YZ250) also continues to excel in the competition and is currently thirteen points behind Ovens. Mark Grove (CRF250) slipped one position and now occupies third in the point score.

However, today’s Motul National Cup round win belonged to Kym Wright (YZ250) who secured the victory after finishing second in both motos. He was joined on the podium by Ovens and Kyle DiCecco (CRF250).

Moto victories were recorded by Grove and Ovens with Mitchell Pirotta (YZ250) and Kyle Neagle (KTM250) each claiming third in the two races.

According to Nokia MX Nationals Series Promoter, Kevin Williams round four of the Nokia MX Nationals was a huge success with a large number of people travelling to the Conondale circuit to enjoy a day of action packed racing.

“Without a doubt everybody here had a fantastic day,” Williams stated, “there was a large crowd at the event with the great weather complementing the action on track.”

“Conondale is certainly a special place with the spectacular grass track constructed from a paddock by the hard working Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club volunteers the Saturday before racing. We have been visiting Conondale for a number of years and once again the track did not disappoint.”

The competitors will now take a break and return to racing on Sunday 21 May at Barrabool in Victoria.

Craig Anderson – Winner Round Three Nokia MX Nationals Pro Open

“It has been a long time since we recorded a round win and today’s victory was the result of us putting our head down and bum up to ensure that everything was right on the day. However, you cannot forget it is only one race and the two guys sitting next to me here on the podium are fast and are also going to be chasing the best result possible throughout the year.”

“Barrabool is a tough track, which is extremely fast, however, I’m sure we can put in a big effort during the next two weeks and be up the pointy end of the field once again.”

Daryl Hurley– Runner Up Round Three Nokia MX Nationals Pro Open

“Today was a bit of a cat and mouse game as Ando [Craig Anderson] and I engaged in a battle for the final moto win.”

“To win the championship you need to be consistent, we know and are fully aware of this and each round we keep working to record the most points possible.”

Daniel Reardon – Third Round Three Nokia MX Nationals Pro Open

“The track today was great and the club did a great job preparing it for us. It was different to usual and provided us all with a challenge which was good.”

“The next round of the series at Barrabool, as I haven’t raced there, it is a new track for me which is always exciting.”

Ryan Marmont - Winner Round Three Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites

“We felt good coming into this round and all the hard work has definitely paid off with me recording my first round victory of the year.”

“The shoulder reconstruction which I had at the start of the year is now not even in the back of my mind, I’m feeling great and really enjoying the racing.”

Troy Dorron – Runner Up Round Three Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites

“I thought the track was good today, it was a little bit slippery early in the day, but it had to be to ensure it was in top condition for racing – the surface turned out to be really nice to ride on.”

“I’m happy with the way I rode today and we can certainly take a lot of positives away from the event.”

Matt Moss – Third Round Three Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites

“I was happy with the way I rode today, it was great to get through both motos without a crash and finish the race in a strong position.”

“ I couldn’t have achieved what I did today without the support of my Dad and the whole Serco Yamaha team.”
