No Fear Honda’s Craig Anderson was unstoppable at Conondale on Sunday, taking his first Pro Open round win of the National Motocross season after stamping his authority in both motos in the Queensland sunshine.

With 50 points to add to the scorecard, Ando now sits just 16 behind series leader Daryl Hurley at the halfway mark.

Craig was in excellent form all day winning the first moto by nearly four seconds from team mate Cody Cooper, and the second from Hurley by around three seconds.

The 28 year old Newcastle based rider was clearly pleased with his hard earned results.

“I’m very happy with finishing first today, and it was my aim to come here and do exactly that. I didn’t set the world on fire in qualifying but that didn’t really matter come race time.”

“In race one, I knew I had to try and get as much distance as possible from the front once I got the holeshot and that is how it went. Hurley caught up with me in the second moto and even managed to pass me, but I didn’t want a repeat of Wonthaggi so I put my head down and got him back before the flag. It was a good day of racing for sure.”

Team mate Cooper, who was relegated to fourth position in the series by day’s end, provided the threat to Ando in moto one. Cody was quickest in qualifying, outpacing the next rider (Daniel Reardon) by 1.5 seconds, and that speed translated to the track where he clocked the fastest lap time and finished in second place. However, a crash in moto 2 saw Cody rejoin the race near the back of the field, hampering his overall results for the day.

“I should have had a better result overall today,” the New Zealand rider said.

“My pace was fast and everything felt great in the first race, but Ando just had too big of a gap on me. In the second moto, I was running third I think and then lost the front end on a corner. I got back up okay but couldn’t get my rhythm back. I’m not happy that I couldn’t make up a few more places before the end of it.”

While Cody had to settle for fifth for the round, Lite’s rider Troy Dorron provided the Team with their second podium finish for the day, rounding up 44 points and second place overall behind Ryan Marmont.

“The racing was really tight all day especially in the second moto,” Doz said. “I’m happy with my result and am still running second in the Championship. So far, so good but I need to get some more points on Doggie (Marmont) at the next round at Barrabool which is my home track.”

No Fear Lites rider Danny Anderson has had a mixed time of it since the season started, and came away from Conondale less than satisfied after battling a bout of the flu.

”I was feeling a bit off physically so my results weren’t the best, and I had a crash in moto 2 which didn’t help. Hopefully things will start to come together for me at the next round,” Digsy said.

As the sole female rider in a group of 40 males in round two of the National Cup, Bec Lipsett also finished with solid results, coming in at 25th overall.

“It was good to get out get some race time in. The National Cup series is all a good lead up to the Women’s Championship, and of course, it’s always a confidence booster to get out and beat a few of the guys.”

“I’m very a happy with everyone’s efforts today,” said Team Manager Pip Harrison. “Ando rode with heart and determination and his results show how hard he can be to beat. He is very much in control when he is leading a race.”

“Cody was also lightening fast and it was unfortunate he crashed in the second moto. Doz rode hammer and tong the whole day, but especially in moto 2. It came down to the flag on that one.”

The Team will next compete at Round 5 of the series to be held in Geelong, VIC on May 21st.
