Craig Anderson (CRF450) made his intentions clear for the 2006 Nokia MX Nationals with the No Fear Honda rider today proving his out to steal the crown from defending champion, Daryl Hurley (RM-Z450) by winning both motos at the fifth round of the series at McAdam Park, Barrabool.

Today’s victory means that Anderson has won the last four motos of the Nokia MX Nationals, on top of back-to-back round wins. Anderson and Hurley have both claimed four race and two round victories at the halfway point of Australia’s premier motocross competition.

With Anderson stealing the show in the Pro Open class it was left to the other competitors to fight it out for the other positions on the podium. Hurley took the fight to Anderson and finished second in both races, while Daniel Reardon (KX450F) showed he is one of the future stars of Australian motocross by coming third in both motos behind his highly experienced rivals.

Hurley continues to lead the Nokia MX Nationals with two-hundred-and-twenty-one championship points to his name. Anderson has now narrowed the margin between himself and the Team Shift Motul Suzuki rider and there is just ten points separating the pair at the halfway mark of the championship.

After finishing third at the last two rounds of the championship, Reardon is inside the top three in the Nokia MX Nationals point score with one-hundred-and-seventy-two points, while an extremely fast Cody Cooper (CRF450) is in fourth just twelve points in arrears.

In the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites, it was Troy Dorron (CRF250) who was too strong for his competitors, with the Geelong based rider putting on a stunning performance in front of his home crowd to take victory for the round.

The first scintillating race of the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites saw Mitch Hoad (KX250F), Dorron, Ryan Marmont (KTM250SX) and defending champion, Cameron Taylor (YZ250) fighting it out for a podium position at various stages of the 30 minute battle. In the end Hoad was the victor, displaying great speed and skill around the Barrabool circuit with Dorron and Marmont following the Kawasaki Racing rider to the finish line.

Keen to go one better the second race, Dorron was strong at the start of the moto after securing the lead continued to display fine form until the fall of the chequered flag. A determined Taylor was second in the race, with the Serco Yamaha rider over coming a bout of gastro and a knee injury to claim the valuable championship points.

Although missing from the podium for the overall results of the event, Marmont showed continued consistency and was third in the second moto. Young competitor, Kade Mosig (CRF250) also put on a spectacular ride throughout the race with the Full Throttle Sports rider finishing inside the top five during the final Pro Lites race.

Marmont continues to lead to the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites, with the Motorex KTM rider banking a number of consistent race results throughout the 2006 series. Marmont currently has a nine point lead over Dorron’s one-hundred-and-ninety-five points. Taylor rounds out the top three and today narrowed the gap between himself and first position in an effort to claim back-to-back championships.

In the Motul National Cup, Tom Ovens (CRF250) today became the only competitor to finish on the podium for the first three rounds of the class, with the Geelong based rider finishing the day in second overall. Fellow Victorian, Mark Grove (CRF250) was the hero for the meeting and after winning both motos finished at the top of the score sheets at the end of the day.

Round two podium winner, Kym Wright (YZ250) continued to display competitive form and finished the opening moto in third position behind Matthew Aranutovic (CRF250). Ovens and Kyle DiCecco (CRF250) rounded out the top three in the final race and finished the round in the same order.

Next weekend’s round of the Motul National Cup will be extremely exciting as just one point separates Ovens and Grove with each competitor holding one-hundred-and-sixteen and one-hundred-and-fifteen points respectively. In his debut season in the class, Jarrod Long (YZ250) continues to record some consistent results and rounds out the top three with ninety-three points.

Barleigh Ranch Raceway will host the sixth round of the Nokia MX Nationals next weekend, as the series visits New South Wales for the first time this year.

Craig Anderson – Winner Round Four Nokia MX Nationals Pro Open
“I’ve had a steady program since the start of the year and it is now starting to pay off. Mind you next weekend will be just as tough as today.”

“It is great knowing that I can win a moto and it makes all the difference when you believe in yourself. I’ve been working with the team really hard and I’ve got Katrina, my wife there as well to help me stay focused.”

Daryl Hurley– Runner Up Round Four Nokia MX Nationals Pro Open
“I’m happy with how today worked out. The start of the first moto was not too good, but I managed to pull through and get a podium for the weekend.”

“I was happy when it rained for the second moto and in fact I wanted it to rain more and more. It reminded me of what it is like to ride back home in New Zealand.”

Daniel Reardon – Third Round Four Nokia MX Nationals Pro Open
“I put in a lot of effort in the off season, and while I’m not quite there yet, I’m still trying and improving slowly.”

“These guys [Anderson and Hurley] are world class and I want to get to the same level as them and win races.”

Troy Dorron - Winner Round Four Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites
“It was good to finally win a race. The first moto wasn’t too much fun as I coped a lot of roost off Mitch [Hoad] for most of the race.”

“I got a better start in the last moto and was able to establish a bit of a gap, however, Cam [Cameron Taylor] kept me on it towards the end of the race.”

Mitch Hoad – Runner Up Round Four Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites
“Today was very good. The first moto was good, I would have liked more of a lead throughout the race but Doz [Troy Dorron] kept it up to me.

“I’m not going to do anything too different for the next round of the series at Newcastle. Everything is looking good and I’m excited and feeling confident to return to my home track.

Cameron Taylor – Third Round Four Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites
“This week I’ve been to physios and doctors, got fluid drained from my keen and then I got gastro on Monday night, so considering everything this weekend has worked out pretty good.”

“This weekend while I lost points to Troy [Dorron] I gained some on Doggy [Ryan Marmont] – I’ve still goy my eye on first in the championship.”
