No Fear Honda’s Craig Anderson and Troy Dorron were both clearly in control at Sunday’s mid point round of the National Motocross Championships held at the superbly groomed Barrabool circuit near Geelong, VIC.

Ando came away from the meeting with two more wins to his burgeoning total, whilst Dorron also took home the winner’s trophy for the Pro Lite division.

After a very consistent first half of the season, it was a particularly sweet first round win for Doz in front of his home crowd.

The Victorian weather was nothing short of ‘biting’ with a few showers in the afternoon thrown in for good measure, but that did not damper the world class racing efforts taking place on the magnificent historical track.

After dominating round four in Queensland with two wins, Craig Anderson put in a repeat performance at the fifth round, working his way up in the first moto from fifth to take prime position by around 4.5 seconds in front of series leader Daryl Hurley.

In the second moto, Ando led from start to finish with his pace even quicker than the first outing, showing that his fitness is at 100%. He has now closed the gap on the Championship ladder and sits only 10 points behind Hurley.

“I had a fantastic run today and am really happy to finish the midway point of the season with another two wins,” the 28 year old Newcastle local said.

“I had to work pretty hard in the first race to get past the lead guys, but moto two went all to plan. I got away cleanly and was able to get a decent gap. I felt really good all day and the CRF450 never faltered.”

“The next round is on my home turf here in NSW so I think I’ll be able to close that gap even further next weekend.”

Anderson would have had a perfect score for the day were it not for team mate Cody Cooper grabbing the extra point for being quickest in qualifying with a lap time of 1:51 flat.

Cooper’s day would not remain as positive, however, after two early ‘offs’ in moto one put him at the back of the field of 35 riders. True to his reputation, the 2004 Pro Lites Champion worked his way up from dead last to finish 8th in moto one.

In the second race, the Kiwi rider got away with the top five, and after putting in a mammoth battle with Daniel Reardon, finished up 4th.

Cooper remains in fourth position on the Championship ladder but was clearly frustrated with the day’s proceedings. “I had the pace in qualifying but took a hard knock in the first race and had to give it everything to make up some points.”

“I got something in my eye which didn’t help. I got a better start in the second race, but was a bit sore so I just did the best I could to finish out the race strongly.”

Lites star Troy Dorron was clearly at home on his local track, particularly apparent in moto two after taking the lead early on from rookie seniors Honda rider, Kade Mosig. Doz eventually won by around 4.5 seconds leaving a trail of serious roost in his wake.

In moto one, the seasoned Honda rider took second place in front of Cameron Taylor whilst not letting up on winner Mitch Hoad throughout the 30 minute plus one lap race .

With his first win of the season, Doz has brought the gap down from series leader Ryan Marmont to just nine points. “It’s always good to win at your home track so I’m rapt,” the 34 year old Geelong based rider said.

“I was pretty pumped to win that second moto and it feels great to finally have a round win on the board.”

“I want to take out this title again. (Doz last won the Lites Championship in 2001). I still have some work to do to catch Marmont, but I’ve been in this position plenty of times before and know what has to be done.”

Whilst No Fear Honda claimed the top two positions for the day, team mate Danny Anderson also ran his races with improved results, finishing 10th overall.

“My results were better today than they have been the last couple of rounds so that was positive. I’ve made up a few more points and feel like I'll be able to improve on my standing before the end of the season.”

Bec Lipsett also got out to mix it up once again with the guys in the National Cup series, finishing both races and getting in some valuable track time.

“I had fun today but did get some arm pump early on in qualifying so that hampered my riding come race time. The Barrabool circuit is a pretty tough one, very hilly and plenty of jumps so it’s all very good for improving my race craft.”

Team Manager Pip Harrison couldn’t have been happier with his rider’s success. “We couldn’t have asked for a better result, first in Pro Open and first in Pro Lites,” he said. “I’m very proud of everyone today. As the season goes on, the Team dynamics keep improving and it is showing in our results.”
