Craig Anderson (CRF 450) has achieved a rarity in Australian motocross by winning three rounds in a row at the sixth instalment of the Nokia MX Nationals at Barleigh Ranch Raceway yesterday.

Anderson has won three of the six rounds already contested in the 2006 Nokia MX Nationals with his latest victory ensuring that just ten points separate him and defending champion, Daryl Hurley (RM-Z450) who is leading the series with two-hundred-and-sixty-eight points

Hurley was the fastest in the first moto with the Team Shift Motul Suzuki rider beating Anderson and his No Fear Honda team-mate, Cody Cooper (CRF 450) to the finish line. It was a day which saw a number of riders fall victim to the rocky track with Cooper and Kawasaki Racing’s Daniel Reardon (KX450F) each battling through the race after sustaining a flat tyre.

In the final race, Anderson beat home Hurley and Reardon with all three riders tussling for the lead numerous times throughout the thirty minute moto. Cooper finished the race inside the top five, in order to secure him third overall for the day behind Hurley and Anderson.

Hurley will be looking to recreate the buffer he once held in the series point score when the Nokia MX Nationals returns to Queensland for the Toowoomba round of the championship on the 18 June. Despite finishing sixth overall yesterday, Reardon continues to round out the top three in the series.

In the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites, veteran Troy Dorron (CRF250) knocked Ryan Marmont off the top position of the series point score after coming second overall yesterday. A flat tyre in the second moto proved costly for Marmont who finished the round eleventh overall.

The first moto in the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites was won by Kawasaki Racing’s Mitch Hoad who engaged in a fascinating battle with Marmont in the final stages of the race. Marmont was left to settle for second with Dorron claiming third.

The Serco Yamaha team were left smiling at the end of the final moto with all three riders finishing on the podium. The hard-charging Jake Moss (YZ250) won the race ahead of his more experienced team-mates, Robbie Marshall (YZ250) and Cameron Taylor (YZ250). While race one winner, Hoad was unable to finish the race, after a crash caused him to retire without valuable championship points.

Taylor was able to assist his championship defence with a fourth and third in yesterday’s two motos ensuring that he finished the day at the top of the score sheets. Second was Dorron with Jake Moss rounding out the top three for the round.

The championship chase for the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites continues to remain alive with just seventeen points separating Dorron, Marmont and third position holder, Taylor.

In the Motul National Cup, Lawson Bopping (CRF250) stood at the top step of the podium for the round after winning the first moto and finishing fourth in the second race. Mathew Haskins (KX250) and Kyle Nagle (KTM250) rounded out the top three for the round.

Bopping was too strong for Haskins and Mark Grove (CRF250) in the first moto, with the second race won by Nagle and the top three completed by Jason Hacket (KTM250) and Haskins.

Less than thirteen points separate the top three in the Motul National Cup with Tom Ovens (CRF250) continuing to lead the series which is designed to showcase the developing talent in Australian motocross. Grove continues to hold down second position with series debutant Jarrod Long maintaining third.

According to Kevin Williams, Nokia MX Nationals a strong crowd of more than three thousand people combating the rain to attend the sixth round of the series, which will return to Newcastle on the 15 and 16 July 2006.

“Newcastle is certainly a community which likes their motocross,” Williams stated, “Morning showers which made the track extremely slippery could not stop three and a half thousand people from attending the event and cheering local rider Craig Anderson home.”

“Now as we head to the business end of the championship, it is great to see each championship is still very close and spectators at the upcoming rounds can expect a lot more bar bashing action.”

Craig Anderson – Winner Round Six, 2006 Nokia MX Nationals
“In the first moto, Reardon was awesome until he got the flat and then it was Cody [Cooper] who suffered the same problem. I was just thinking I had to catch Daryl [Hurley] and it is certainly great to walk away with the second moto and round win.”

“Next round will be a tough one as I haven’t raced there [Toowoomba] since 1995. We’ve got a few weeks now to recoup and I’ll just keep going to the gym and come back swinging at Queensland.”

Daryl Hurley – Runner Up Round Six, 2006 Nokia MX Nationals
“There were guys out there today who should have won however they fell victim to punctures. It just shows anybody can have a DNF and I will just keep working and trying hard in order to claim as many championship points as possible.”

“In the first race I was definitely happy when I saw Ando [Craig Anderson] on the ground after he had a bit of an off and I was not going to stop and help him up. However, in the second moto he beat me fair and square.”

Cody Cooper – Third Round Six, 2006 Nokia MX Nationals
“I was feeling pretty confident for the first race and then [Daniel] Reardon got a flat and I got Ando [Crag Anderson] and then he got me back, I was just focusing on the gap between me and [Daryl] Hurley when I got a flat. In the second moto my back brakes faded.”

“It was a pretty slick track out there and I just tried to have a good race in order to obtain championship points.”

Cameron Taylor – Winner Round Six, 2006 Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites
“I’m pretty happy with how I finished today. It was a difficult track which was extremely rocky. However, it was the same for everyone and I managed to stay out of trouble to take the win.”

“I’ve got a new motor in my bike which is working a lot better off the starts for me. It is certainly making the job easier starting inside the top five rather than having to fight my way back.”

Troy Dorron – Runner Up Round Six, 2006 Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites
“It is great to walk away with the red plate and it is a bit of a sweetener after what was a disappointing day after I got a flat tyre one of the races.”

“I’m not going to do anything different for next round. What I have been doing is working and I want to continue to get more championship points.”

Jake Moss – Runner Up Round Six, 2006 Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites
“In the first race I had a big crash with Doz [Troy Dorron] and then in the second moto a few of the other boys made mistakes and I ended up with the win.”

“My goal for the next round is not to crash. At all the races where I haven’t crashed I’ve ended up inside the top five at the end of the race.”
