Yamaha Racing has experienced another rollercoaster of emotion and results at the sixth round of the 2006 Nokia MX Nationals at Newcastle Barleigh Ranch circuit today.

While the injury count continued for CDR/Nokia/Yamaha with Cheyne Boyd joining Troy Carroll and Matt Moss on the sidelines after a broken thumb ruled him out of contention the momentum gained for the Serco Yamaha team with reigning Champion Cameron Taylor winning the round and team mate Jake Moss joining him on the podium in third.

CDR/Nokia/Yamaha stand in rider Ford Dale, back on his Pro Griffin Yamaha sponsored YZ450F narrowly missed a podium finishing 4th overall for the day in the Pro Open class.

CDR NOKIA YAMAHA FACTORY PRO OPEN MOTOCROSS TEAM REPORT

With Cheyne Boyd ruled out of competition a lone Darryll King was left to fly the flag for the CDR/Nokia/Yamaha team at the Newcastle round, the three-time Australian champion qualifying seventh for the opening thirty-minute race.

A bad start left the 36 year old mid pack where he struggled to progress through the field. Not at all comfortable with the setup of YZ450F King finished the race back in 12th place and his CDR/Nokia/Yamaha team was quickly put to work between the two moto’s making major suspension adjustments to try and combat the unique track surface.

King made a much better start in the second race getting off the line in fifth before serious stomach cramps plagued his charge. After slipping back to sixth King held station for the remainder of the race, his combined results seeing him finish eighth overall for the round.

“It was a tough day today,” King said. “I was very uncomfortable in the first race and felt I didn’t ride the bike, it rode me.

“My YZ450F was much better in the second race but I wasn’t able to get the best from it once the stomach cramps set in.”

On a positive note Darryll King was one of the few front running competitors in the pro open class that did not suffer a puncture during the course of the day’s racing.

“One thing is for sure our Dunlop tyres did their job and didn’t let us down,” King commented.

Today’s round was won by Craig Anderson ahead of championship leader Daryl Hurley and Cody Cooper.

In other positive news for the CDR/Nokia/Yamaha team, reigning Australian Supercross Champion Troy Carroll has successfully undergone an operation to re-attach ligaments in his ankle and is expected to be back training on a bike within six weeks.

SERCO YAMAHA FACTORY PRO LITE MOTOCROSS TEAM REPORT

As the 2006 Nokia MX Nationals Pro Lites Championship heads into the business end of the season the momentum in gaining for Serco Yamaha, the Brisbane-based team celebrating dual podiums to riders Cameron Taylor and Jake Moss and for the first time an all Serco top three race finish in the second moto of the day.

The three-rider Serco Yamaha squad was on the pace from the onset with Jake Moss posting the second quickest time and Cameron Taylor fourth fastest in the early morning qualifying session.

The first race saw Jake Moss get away well but it was to be short lived with the seventeen year old involved in a massive eight rider incident at turn three on the opening lap.

Moss rejoined the race at the back of the 37 rider pack and in what has become habit in recent races, rode from dead last passing an astounding 22 riders to finish 15th.

Team mates Cameron Taylor and Robbie Marshall were both slow of the start and left to play catch up, Taylor fought his way back through to fourth while Marshall finished 16th behind Moss.

In the second race of the day it was Marshall who got the lightning start, slotting into second behind Kade Mosig with team mate Taylor in third.

Although executing a lack lustre start Moss knew from the opening lap that he had superior bike speed and set about hunting down the leaders that included both of his team mates.

While Moss conquered all before him, Marshall and Taylor mounted a charge to pass Troy Dorron on the second last lap of the race.

The Serco Yamaha freight train crossed the finish line with Moss leading Marshall and Taylor.

Third place in the second moto was enough to secure Cameron Taylor the overall round win ahead of Troy Dorron and team mate Jake Moss.

“I didn’t have much confidence coming into the round as this is my least favourite track,” Taylor said.

“It is also a track where it is imperative you stay out of trouble so that is where my focus was today.

“Development wise we are coming along in leaps and bounds and my starts are getting better week-by-week.

“There is a great feeling around Serco at the moment with only four rounds to go the team is on a real roll and our 1,2,3 race finish will only add momentum to that,” Taylor added.

Third overall for the day saw Jake Moss retain sixth in the championship and close the point’s gap to Kade Mosig.

“That second moto was one of the best races I have had in my senior career,” Moss said.

“It was hard close racing but really enjoyable because there was plenty of respect going on out there.

“It is not often you can race that close and trust your fellow competitors not to do anything that may take you out of the race,” Moss commented.

Robbie Marshall finished an impressive seventh overall and now sits ninth in the championship.

“I am absolutely elated to be back at the front of the pack,” Marshall said. “Today reaffirmed I can still run with and beat the championship leaders.

“I am extremely grateful to Gavin and the Serco team and Yamaha Motor Australia for sticking by me in what was a difficult time in my career.”

Both Yamaha factory teams will enjoy a two week break before heading to Toowoomba’s Echo Valley for the seventh round of the series on Sunday June 11.
