Australian Superbike R1

  • 1236 - Lunch break now
  • 1233 - The commentators are still calling Jamie Stauffer the winner...  But I am very confident the results printed below are correct.
  • 1231 - I believe that finishing order has now firmed up. Etheridge 11th, Stronach 12th, Fergusson salvages 13th after that mishap, local MX star turned road racer Matt Battista scores 14th, Roe 15th
  • 1230 - The finishing order as I see it, Giles, J Stauffer, Johnson, Allerton, Holland, Stroud, Bugden, Charlton, D Stauffer, Maxwell
  • 1228 - Jamie crosses the line first but I believe Gilesy has just got the win, Johnson third, Allerton fourth, Holland fifth, and Stroud sixth on combined time. Awaiting for confirmation but think that Gilesy has it
  • 1227 - A lapper held up Gilesy on that lap, Jamie alongside down the straight, but Gilesy has the inside line but Jamie takes the advantage still... He has to get a little ground on the Suzuki to take the win on combined time, if Shawn finishes second right on his tail Shawn will still take the win...
  • 1226 - Gilesy really quite loose coming onto the main straight nearly every lap, the back end of his Suzuki wriggling and wagging away even when upright
  • 1225 - Jamie responds, the gap was out to nearly a second but Jamie has now halved that
  • 1224 - Johnson has pulled away from Holland, Gilesy may have sneaked away to the tune of another couple of bike lengths over Jamie that lap
  • 1222 - Johnson up to third after getting the better of Holland. The 4-tenths gap between Giles and Jamie Stauffer is remaining static, Jamie perhaps closes a little in some of the turns but down the hill the Suzuki has the motor
  • 1221 - Jamie closing on Gilesy now, seven laps to run.  Holland is now four seconds behind them in third and coming under attack from Johnson and Stroud...
  • 1219 - Fergusson had been making a big effort to get Gilesy but just ran into the sand at turn one and was down near the back of the field by the time he dug himself out, that previous lap Gilesy had done a 56.1 and Krusty a 56.2.   Krusty's demise promotes Jamie to second place, Holland has lost touch with them, his tyres may have gone off or some sort of mechanical dramas for the Pirelli man
  • 1218 - Gilesy's Suzuki horsepower is helping him here today, his pursuers close around the back of the circuit but on the run down the hill the Suzuki has the motor to pull that couple of bike lengths back. Stephen got some great shots of him monoing over the crest at around 250kph yesterday that will go up on the site this week
  • 1217 - The leading quartet have bunched up a little now, only 7-tenths covering the four riders, Holland looking dangerous...
  • 1216 - Stroud has found something today it seems, the Kiwi putting in some good laps to be up to a strong fifth position in this re-start. Gilesy has four tenths over Fergusson, then it is Jamie Stauffer, Russell Holland and Andrew Stroud
  • 1215 - Gilesy with a lot of wheelspin onto the main straight, still Fergusson and Jamie giving chase
  • 1214 - Gilesy away in the lead again with Johnson and Fergusson in tow,  Johnson made a mistake out of the basin though and lost a couple of positions.. Gilesy with a cracker of an opening lap has stretched himself a comfortable lead.. A few drops of drizzle dripping appearing again now and then.... Not nice...
  • 1213 - The riders are rolling up to their starting positions now, geez the rims on that R1-SP look trick!
  • 1211 - The weather is looking a bit dodgy... As though we could get a downpour before this race gets underway proper, a couple of spots appearing here and there.... Just enough to make you nervous....
  • 1210 - Superbikes away on their warm up lap in preparation for the re-start
  • 1208 - The bike down was certainly a Yamaha but doesn't have enough bodywork left on it for me to tell what number it is. The rider highsided out of turn one and both him and his bike slid more than 50 metres along the tarmac right into the middle of the esses
  • 1204 - Holland the quickest man thus far with a 56.04 but has about a second and a half to go before he can get on terms with the leaders. He will catch Fergusson quite soon though I think.  Red flag, rider down at the esses, he is okay but his bike in a treacherous position. Not sure who it was, so we will have a two part race, 15 laps in the re-start
  • 1203 - None of the front runners taking too many aggressive risks just yet and it doesn't look as though anybody will break away.  Jamie Stauffer up to third place after getting the better of Fergusson.  Holland is closing on the leading quartet...
  • 1202 - Holland takes 5th from Bugden in a big move, the leading group is Giles, Johnson, Fergusson and Jamie Stauffer, only half a second covers the leading quartet now, can't get much closer than that!
  • 1201 - Shannon Johnson the quickest man on lap two and closing on Giles, Fergusson still third ahead of Jamie Stauffer. Bugden 5th, Holland 6th ..
  • 1200 - As they start lap two Gilesy has half a second on Johnson, Fergusson and Jamie Stauffer. 60.2 from a standing start from Gilesy, the Yoshi Suzuki man has a clear track while the others fight it out, this could be good for the Suzuki man
  • 1159 - Superbike away and it is Shawn Giles that leads them through turn one. The commentators think Aitchison is up in the leading group, funny, he doesn't ride Superbike....
  • 1144 - There is no video feed here this weekend as there is no A/V truck to do the local broadcast. Apparently it is being taped for TV, but I can't see too many cameras around. Superbikes on the grid now but still a fair wait until they get underway
  • 1138 - Superbikes up next, sky is overcast and there is a chance of rain just to make the riders nervous... The Yoshimura Suzuki squad are sporting some new pipes this weekend. They only received them a few days ago and the bikes are not perfectly tuned for them as yet so Gilesy's GSX-R is really popping and farting under brakes, but it shrieks like a banshee when he is up it and sounds great. The new pipes have given the GSX-R more mumbo from 7000rpm up according to Yoshimura Suzuki boss Phil Tainton
