  • 1616 - Jamie Stauffer takes the win ahead of Holland, Fergusson third, Dan Stauffer fourth, Andrew Stroud won that battle for fifth then it was Maxwell, Bugden, Waters and Scott Charlton came home well down on them in 9th place. I can only presume he made some sort of mistake on the final lap.  Etheridge remounted his machine to salvage 10th place ahead of Roe, Gibson, Odendall, Tozer and Radford
  • 1615 - Charlton ahead of Maxwell now for sixth place. Maybe Scotty should ride with a standard engine more often.... He blew his race engine last week and is using a stock engine this weekend
  • 1613 - Scott Charlton just got the better of Robbie Bugden to move up to 7th place behind Wayne Maxwell and Andrew Stroud who were having their own battle over 5th place. Etheridge just crashed out of 10th place but was quickly up and seemingly unhurt
  • 1610 - Johnson's Kawasaki just died and he rolled to a stop on the grass which takes the pressure of Fergusson.  Holland still second to Jamie, 2.7 seconds behind the Yamaha man but 3 seconds ahead of Fergusson now.  If Holland brings home second place I believe he will be the overall round winner...
  • 1608 - Just when Fergusson had got close enough to be able to challenge Holland he made a mistake and ran a little wide which cost him all that hard work and lost him 1.5 seconds to Holland.  Johnson just over a second further behind Fergusson. Dan Stauffer still leading the heady battle for fifth from Stroud but they are 9 seconds behind Johnson with six laps to run
  • 1607 - Fergusson closing back on Holland
  • 1605 - Holland has not been able to close any more ground on Jamie Stauffer though, the Yamaha man responding to the challenge to manage the gap at around 2 seconds.  Fergusson still third with a few bike lengths on Johnson. This quartet though the class acts of the day as the battle over fifth was 8 seconds down on that leading pack of four
  • 1603 - The battle over fifth place is currently led by Dan Stauffer but you could throw a blanket over him and include Stroud, Bugden and Maxwell in the warmth
  • 1601 - Holland getting away from Fergusson a little now, not much, but enough for the Joe Rocket Honda man not to be showing him a wheel at every turn. Holland also pulled a couple of tenths back on Jamie that time around.
  • 1600 - Kiwi Andrew Stroud doing well in this one, the Suzuki man running fifth ahead of Bugden, Dan Stauffer, Wayne Maxwell, Shannon Etheridge and Scott Charlton rounds out the top ten with 14 to run
  • 1558 - No wonder Jamie is pulling away, he just set a new lap record, 66.8. With 15 laps to run he already has a 2 second buffer over that battle for second place being waged by Holland, Fergusson and Johnson
  • 1556 - Krusty was all over Holland but couldn't make a pass stick, Johnson closing on that pair too but Jamie streaking away in this one
  • 1554 - Superbikes away again and this time the start is fairly equal with the whole front row four-wide towards turn 1 but it was Jamie who led them through the turn with Holland in behind, Krusty did his best to get Holland under brakes at the Southern Hairpin and it nearly got ugly but they all remained upright. Shannon Johnson in fourth, Jamie starting to pull away already...
  • 1545 - I don't think we are too far away from a re-start, one of the riders down was Steve Manning and the other rider down Brenden Gurowski.  The race will be a full re-start for the whole 19 laps and riders are readying themselves now on the grid for their warm up laps
  • 1538 - Jamie Stauffer got the best run off the line to capitalise on his pole position with Adam Fergusson in right behind. This pair immediately started to pull away. A little further back Stroud and Maxwell were rubbing plastics. But the riders did not even get to complete the opening lap before the red flag came out as two riders had gone down at the Southern Hairpin.
  • 1532 - Unfortunately Glenn Allerton will be a non starter in this race as he banged his head around a little again in that Supersport crash earlier this afternoon.
  • 1528 - Superbikes up next!
  • 1525 - Kelly takes the win by 6.6 seconds over McMartin while Roe just got the better of Van Rooyen for the final step on the podium.  Childs 5th followed by Taborsky, Henry, Sutton, Collins, Smith and Bryan
  • 1523 - with two laps to run Kelly had a huge 3.5 second lead over McMartin. McMartin's comments about riding on old tyres being the reason that Kelly beat him yesterday obviously fired Kelly up for today. That and also of course being able to bring home the AAC 749R ahead of the Ducati Australia backed machine of McMartin.
  • 1521 - 125 Points -
  • 1519 - Mat Childs pushed Henry back to sixth place on lap three while Van Rooyen was starting to close on third placed Paul Roe.
  • 1516 - Mick Kelly got a good run off the line while McMartin's 749R reared up a little which cost him a litle time but it was still this pair that immediately started to clear out from the pack of larger capacity machines. Ben Henry also got a good start but was shuffled back to fifth place by Paul Roe and James Van Rooyen by the end of lap one. Kelly had 9-tenths of a second over McMartin at the end of lap one and by the end of lap two had built on that to extend his lead out to 1.2 seconds.
  • 1508 - Points for the classes decided thus far this weekend - Points - Superstock - Naked - Supersport -
  • 1505 - Then four riders in that battle for second all put in 73 second laps in the run to the flag but nobody could touch Simmonds who went on to take the win by 8-tenths of a second over Leigh-Smith while Rigoli rounded out the podium ahead of Galvin, Hatton, Inkster, Moller, Thompson, Esler and Campbell
  • 1503 - Blake Leigh-Smith moved up to second place late with three laps to go after putting in a new fastest lap of the race on the previous lap, and then besting that again on the penultimate lap.  Simmonds still enjoyed a 2.2 second buffer out in front though....
  • 1502 - The battle for second then really started to hot up as more riders joined the melee, Rigoli, Leigh-Smith, Inkster, Galvin and Hatton all covered by less than a second...
  • 1500 - Rigoli was holding down second place from a charging Tim Inkster while veteran 125 specialist Peter Galvin watched on just behind the younger pair.  Up front though Simmonds had gone to the tune of 2.4 seconds
  • 1457 - Final 125cc race of the day on now and Brett Simmonds is out to make up for his earlier mechanical problems. The Tasmanian took more than a second out of Rigoli, Galvin and Inkster on the opening lap.

  • 1437 - Jamie Staffer takes the win, Aitchison second, O'Halloran third.  Waters brings the Kawasaki home in fourth place ahead of Fergusson, Geronomi, Crowe, Greedy, Smith, Jones, Staring, Quinn, Clarke, Casella and Campbell rounds out the top 15
  • 1436 - Seaton down on the final lap, struggling to get going again
  • 1436 - Staring must have some sort of problem, he is struggling to hold onto 12th place ahead of Quinn and Jones
  • 1435 - Allerton is down and out of the race, up unhurt but that's the end of this race for #34
  • 1433 - Chris Seaton is now leading the battle for seventh ahead of Allerton and Crowe.  Staring has drifted back to 12th place behind Greedy and Smith
  • 1431 - Aitchison still staying in touch with Stauffer, the gap still around half a second... Things are not all over yet... Waters has pulled away from Fergusson and the Kawasaki just benefitted from the fact that Fergusson and Geronomi just got held up badly for half a lap behind backmarker Jason Cullen
  • 1430 - Waters is through on Fergusson to take fourth position. O'Halloran had a bad lap that time around, drifting back to a 70 second time after running as quick as a high 68 earlier on in the race...
  • 1429 - Waters right on the back of Fergusson now but I have seen a few small puffs of smoke from his ZX-6RR..... Will it make race distance...?
  • 1428 - Waters and Geronomi are closing in on Fergusson and are running quick enough to get the better of him before race end
  • 1427 - Aitchison has dropped into the 68s now in an effort to stay in touch with Jamie, and he is still within striking distance, the gap only 6-tenths with 8 laps to run
  • 1426 - Josh Waters and Shaun Geronomi are three seconds ahead of that battle for 7th and having their own battle over fifth spot, Waters with his nose in front at present
  • 1425 - The best current battle on the track is being waged over 7th with Staring currently leading a battle over that position while tussling with Allerton, Crowe and Seaton
  • 1422 - Jamie is getting serious now though, setting a new fastest lap of the race with a 68.8 to extend his buffer over Aitchison out to 7-tenths
  • 1421 - O'Halloran has pulled half a second ahead of Fergusson and is now lapping faster than his team-mates...
  • 1420 - Geronomi has dropped off the leading group and is now being threatened by Josh Waters and the pair have shuffled Allerton back to 7th just ahead of Staring and Crowe
  • 1419 - O'Halloran on the back of Fergusson and threatening... Still Jamie and Aitchison the lead pair..  O'Halloran challenges Fergusson under brakes for the esses, makes it stick to take third place to make it a Team Yamaha 1-2-3 with 14 laps to run
  • 1417 - Jamie is not getting away.  Aitchison is on his tail and Krusty is still in touch also.  Allerton really starting to come under attack from Geronomi now and in danger of losing 5th place.
  • 1415 - Supersports away now and Jamie gets a cracker run off the line to lead them through turn one, he pulled a couple of bike lengths from the startline alone! Aitchison and Fergusson giving chase with O'Halloran, Allerton and Geronomi also in the hunt. Waters, Staring and Crowe the next best
  • 1359 - Supersport up next
  • 1356 - Cartwright takes the win, Rattenbury finishes in second place 1.3 seconds behind but nearly 12 seconds ahead of Van Rooyen so even with his 10 second jump start penalty will still retain second place. Stuart Fripp brought the BMW home in fourth place ahead of Robbie Phillis who was the first of the Forgotten Era men home
  • 1348 - Nakedbike race 3 underway now and leading the way is Rattenbury ahead of Cartwright but when they come round Rattenbury will be shown the ten second penalty board for jumping the start...
  • 1334 - Josh Houwen takes the win ahead of Trounson with McConnell rounding out the podium. Ian Andrews made his way forward from nearly the back of the field from that early turn one incident and on the way to doing so put in the fastest lap of the race, a 72.4
  • 1330 - A leading group of four quickly established themselves as standouts from the rest with Trounson, Houwen, McConnell and Liddicoat the chief protagonists in that closely fought battle
  • 1327 - This time around it was not Ian Andrews with his nose in front at turn one but Chris Trounson. Andrews was then involved in a turn one incident that saw him shuffled well down the pack. Right with Trounson up front was Brad McConnell while Houwen, Liddicoat and Henry gave chase
  • 1325 - The final Superstock race of the weekend underway shortly
  • 1256 - Provisional Results from Superbike Race 1

  • 1254 - Last lap and the order looks settled, Russell, Adam, Jamie the podium
  • 1253 - Holland still has over 3 seconds on Fergusson with only two laps to run, Jamie Stauffer a further 4 seconds behind, now 6 seconds ahead of Johnson who in turn has 4 seconds over Allerton
  • 1251 - And that anything could involve backmarkers.... And yes two hold Holland up through the fast left hander before the esses... That would have cost him a little time...
  • 1250 - Unless anything untowards happens Holland is going to win this race from Fergusson with Jamie third... But still 5 laps to run and anything can happen...
  • 1248 - Jamie Stauffer is making no impression Fergusson or Holland.  Holland now has a 3 second lead over Fergusson who in turn has a 3 second advantage over Jamie...
  • 1246 - Maxwell has been shuffled back to 9th place now just ahead of Scott Charlton.  Allerton is in 5th but 15 seconds behind the race leader, however he is in front of Dan Stauffer, Robbie Bugden and Andrew Stroud
  • 1243 - Jamie get's Shannon for third place, but Holland is four seconds ahead...  But there is 10 laps still to run... Holland is the only man to get into the 66s so far in this race, will we now see something special from Jamie...?
  • 1242 - Holland has 1.5 seconds over Krusty now who in turn has 2 seconds on Johnson who continues to hold off challenges from Jamie
  • 1241 - Wayne Maxwell putting in a great ride, currently ahead of Allerton and Dan Stauffer with his privateer Kawasaki in sixth spot
  • 1240 - Johnson still holding off Jamie Stauffer, both riders desperate on the brakes to try and get an advantage over each other. Holland has pulled a gap over Fergusson...
  • 1238 - Jamie had a go at Shannon under brakes into the esses but ran too deep and Shannon took that third position right back, the Honda men getting away up front, Holland still with the advantage over Fergusson, this pair have two seconds over their pursuers
  • 1236 - Holland getting good drive off the turns but Krusty gets Holland this time at the Northern Hairpin but Holland gets him back on the entry to the left hander to take the lead right back to show that he will be no pushover.  Shannon Johnson still in third place ahead of Jamie. 16 laps to run
  • 1235 - Bugden still holding Jamie off, Shannon Johnson behind them. Up front it is still Holland and Fergusson up front.  But Shannon Johnson up to third place now, Jamie into fourth...
  • 1234 - Russell Holland got the jump from the line ahead of Krusty with Bugden in behind, with half a lap down Krusty and Holland had already started pulling away, Krusty tried to get Holland at the Northern Hairpin but Holland holds on, Jamie in fourth behind Bugden
  • 1231 - Superbikes up shortly
  • 1208 - Results thus far this morning - Supersport - Superstock - Naked - 125 - Twins - Sidecar - FX Cup -
  • 1132 - The two 749R mounted men clearly the class of the field, as they started the final lap they came upon a backmarker on an SP1 who they put a lap down but McMartin was baulked a little which could be what gives Kelly the advantage to the flag.....  McMartin closes though and takes the lead into the esses but couldn't get it turned quick enough and Kelly goes straight back through to take the win.  Finally the Pro Twins class brings some amusement. Paul Roe takes the final step on the podium some 13 seconds behind the leading duo while Ben Henry brought home fourth place
  • 1131 - McMartin and Kelly swapped positions a few times on the opening lap of the second Pro Twins race of the weekend but on the second lap McMartin managed to start sneaking away from Kelly. But Kelly then came back at him and at the halfway point of the race again challenged McMartin for the lead but couldn't manage to make a pass stick. But late on lap five Kelly out-braked McMartin at the Northern Hairpin, McMartin came back at him in the esses but Kelly retained the advantage to set up a great battle to be played out over the final two laps...
  • 1116 - Hatton takes the clear win, Smith second, Galvin third, Inkster fourth then next best in order, Thompson, Campbell, Rigoli, Esler, Beales, Moller
  • 1115 - Inkster past Galvin now in a brave move but he kept it together only for Galvin to get him back a couple of corners later. Hatton untroubled out in front
  • 1114 - Smith into second place now but Hatton looking odds on for the win... Inkster is right on Galvin's case...
  • 1112 - Hatton in front now and pulling away from Galvin while Leigh-Smith is up into third place.  Moller has some sort of problem
  • 1109 - Hatton closed on Galvin on lap two but nothing separated the leading four riders, Galvin, Hatton, Campbell and Inkster and behind them Blake Leigh-Smith, Cath Thompson and Rhys Moller were looking to join the party up front
  • 1107 - Peter Galvin was the early race leader in this second 125cc race of the weekend from Campbell and Hatton.  Simmonds had machine problems on the warm up lap and is out of contention I think
  • 1056 - Provisional Results from Aus Supersport Race 1 - Jamie, Krusty, Allerton, Geronomi, Staring, Seaton, Waters, Crowe, Greedy, O'Halloran, Kelly, Jones, Clarke, Quinn, Casella, Campbell, Stronach, Figueiredo, Cullen, Reid, Goldsmith
  • 1054 - Geronomi tried a move under brakes at the hairpin on the final lap but Allerton held him out and goes on to take third place.  Jamie the winner, Krusty second
  • 1053 - Allerton trying to come back at Geronomi.. He gets him at the entry to the esses, they will be amongst backmarkers on the next and final lap...
  • 1051 - Geronomi has got ahead of Allerton to take 3rd place on the track... But remember the results will be decided on combined time...
  • 1050 - Jamie now has more than two seconds on Krusty who in turn has two seconds on Allerton and Geronomi.  Next in line is Staring a further six seconds behind with a 3 second buffer over Seaton with three laps to run
  • 1046 - With seven laps to run it looks as though the first two steps on the podium are settled with Jamie looking certain for the win ahead of Krusty, but still plenty of arguing over that final step as Allerton fends off frequent challenges from Geronomi
  • 1044 - Staring has managed to break away from that pack he was involved in and thanks to the Yamaha boys crashing out is now promoted into fifth spot on the track, ahead of Seaton, Kelly and Crowe
  • 1043 - Jamie has nearly a full second over Fergusson who in turn has now managed to pull away from Aitchison.  Disaster then for the Yamaha squad as Aitchison and O'Halloran tripped each other up in a braking duel into the esses. Both men okay.  Geronomi all over the back of Allerton and looking for a way past to sneak into 3rd
  • 1042 - A hectic battle unfolding for seventh place with Staring, Kelly, Crowe, Seaton, Waters and Greedy the protagonists
  • 1041 - Shaun Geronomi doing very well also, not far behind O'Halloran and still in touch with that leading group
  • 1040 - Allerton is having more trouble getting past Aitchison this time around, he also has O'Halloran nipping at his heels...
  • 1039 - Mick Kelly has done well from the re-start, running as high as sixth on the opening lap
  • 1038 - Krusty gets Aitchison up the inside at the Northern Hairpin but Jamie has built a handy buffer... Can Krusty pull it back...?
  • 1037 - They are away again now and this time it is Jamie and Aitchison the two men leading the way with Krusty and Allerton behind and eager to get past...  This could play into Jamie's hands...
  • 1033 - Getting ready for the re-start now
  • 1013 - The red flag then came out for a number of separate incidents at different parts of the track. It will now be a two part race with a re-start for the final 16 laps
  • 1011 - Jamie getting away from Krusty now but Allerton has promoted himself into third after sneaking past Aitchison, Jamie the only rider to dip into the 68s thus far in this race
  • 1010 - Jamie has pulled a couple of bike lengths over Krusty now while Allerton is all over the back of Aitchison and looking for a way past
  • 1008 - Jamie and Adam got off the line well to lead the field through turn one for the first time while Aitchison and Allerton gave chase. Will this be the first time this year that Krusty can get the better of Jamie on the Supersport bike...
  • 1006 - Supersport up next
  • 1000 - I posted this yesterday but am repeating it here for those that were not tuned in yesterday - I have had discussions with a senior Motorcycling Australia representative, Daniel Hutchinson, here on Saturday morning and also with Road Race Commissioner Phil Tainton concerning the new class of racing being adopted in some states for twin-cylinder 650cc motorcycles. I impressed on them the fact that I think this class needs immediate direction from the top in regards to a standardised set of rules to be enforced Australia wide in order for this class to realise its true potential for growth. I see massive potential in this class which offers newcomers to racing a reliable machine that can be brought new along with spares easily accessed through dealers nationwide.  However, I do believe that a set of rules needs to be standardised urgently.  This will ensure riders do not spend money on excessive modifications, such as new forks etc., for them only to later find them banned under a set of rules that come down at a date in the future. This would help to ensure that riders do not go to great expense in modifying their machines in ways that eventually may rule them ineligible for competition.  I can see this class as the potential new starting point for riders nationwide, it would also be fantastic if the class could also enjoy a lower entry age than other classes of racing, much like 125 GP enjoys now.  Australian racing will always need a GP class, I see that as essential, but I do believe this new class for 650cc twins offers something different. A situation where anyone can buy a new machine, such as an SV650 Suzuki (which Australia are doing HUGE discounts on for people wishing to race them), and can realistically expect to be able to race it all year without having to do anything other than change the oil and take it to their dealer for an inexpensive valve adjustment every now and then. A class where crash costs are reasonable due to the lack of bodywork etc. However, in order for this class to be given a real chance of realising its potential I believe it needs immediate leadership and direction from the top. I plan to detail my reasons in a letter to Motorcycling Australia and the Road Race Commissioners late next week where I will urge them to take quick and decisive action in standardising the new class across Australia. I invite all interested persons to either email me at editor@mcnews.com.au with their thoughts, or they can air them publicly in the mcnews.com.au forum in our 'Oz Racing' section of the forum
  • 0950 - Provisional Results on Combined Times, and I stress provisional - Rattenbury, Fripp, Phillis, Corpe, Wolfenden, Collins, Middleton, Mills, Cook, Wootton
  • 0948 - The two had an altercation on the entry to the esses on the final lap which ended with them touching and Cartwright falling softly but of course that gave Rattenbury an untroubled run to the line to take the victory
  • 0946 - Rattenbury pulled a couple of bike lengths over Cartwright on the penultimate lap at the Northern Hairpin, then as they got the last lap board the gap less than 4-tenths of a second...
  • 0945 - Van Rooyen then had what looked to be some sort of mechanical drama which left Rattenbury and Cartwright to fight over the race lead
  • 0943 - Two riders ran too deep into turn one and thus had to go through pitlane before they could rejoin the track.  Meanwhile up front it was Rattenbury from Van Rooyen and Cartwright
  • 0936 - Mick Neason was the faller and has been taking off to the medical centre to be checked out, we are getting set for a re-start
  • 0928 - Will be a two part race for another four laps. Cartwright had worked his way up to fifth behind Robbie Phillis before the red flag came out
  • 0927 - Van Rooyen got the lead with 4 and a half laps to go and then on the next lap the red flag came out after a rider fell at the Northern Hairpin
  • 0926 - Stuart Fripp holding down third from Robbie Phillis on his Forgotten Era Historic machine
  • 0925 - James Van Rooyen trying hard to not let Rattenbury get away and keeping the gap at less than a second for the first few laps. Cartwright had worked his way up to tenth by the time they started lap three
  • 0921 - Nakedbike Race 2 underway now and I think it was Jon Cartwright who had an absolute shocker of a start to be near the back of the field on lap one while Rattenbury led Van Rooyen
  • 0920 - Superstock Race 2 Provisional Results

  • 0913 - Trounson started to pull back a little ground on Andrews but not enough to get within striking distance, unless Andrews makes a big mistake or has some sort of problem...
  • 0911 - Chris Trounson then passed Higgins for second place with two laps to run but Andrews had a handy 1.5 second buffer up front
  • 0910 - With three laps to run Andrews had a 1.4 second buffer over a charging Danny Higgins while Chris Trounson had worked his way up to third place ahead of Quinn, McConnell, Houwen and Yates
  • 0907 - Local Suzuki rider Ian Andrews got away well ahead of Josh Houwen, Bradd McConnell and Danny Higgins. Andrews quickly started to pull away from his pursuers however as the chasing trio started tripping each other up in their battle for position. Chris Trounson then joined their ranks to turn that 3-way battle for second into a 4-wsay affair
  • 0903 - Back live at Mallala now in readiness for the first race of the day, Superstock Race 2
