| The Australian Superbike
Championship travelled to Sunny Queensland Raceway near
Ipswich for Round 4 last weekend. Three days of perfect
weather made for an enjoyable weekend of racing with record
crowds, coming to witness the rivalry and outstanding level
of racing that is offered by the Australian Superbike
Championship competitors. With five weeks break since the last Round in South Australia, Scott was able to have some work done on the previously stock standard Yamaha R1. Unfortunately this meant having to sacrifice an opportunity to test at Queensland prior to the Australian Championship Round. With no test time, Scott focussed immediately on trying to find a suitable set-up for the race. Friday’s Practice was fine and sunny, Scott was 11th quickest in the first session, and managed to improve his time in the second session, pushing him up into 10th position on combined times. Scott qualified on Saturday in 10th position, and was set to start the race from the third row of the grid. Scott was able to continue his improvement on each outing. However, Scott felt that given more time on the track he would have been able to step up the pace. In Race 1, Scott had an average start from the third row of the grid and took some time in regaining his place. Scott’s consistency throughout the race saw him gradually move through the field, picking off each rider one by one. Scott finished the race in 7th position, and was 3rd placed Privateer. Scott managed a better start in Race 2, which meant being able to keep up with the couple of riders in front. This made for a more exciting race, with Scott finishing in 7th place again, only 2 tenths of a second off 6th place getter and a mere 5 tenths of a seconds separating him from the 5th place getter. Scott also recorded his fastest time for the weekend during this race. At the conclusion of Round 4, Scott is in 6th place with only 3 points separating him from 5th place in the Australian Superbike Championship and is still holding 3rd place in the Superbike Privateer Cup. Scott will travel to Tasmania for Round 5 on September 8th – 10th 2006 where he hopes to have had some testing time, and is looking forward to improving on his current Championship position. |
