| Jeremy Crowe – Race Report
QLD round ASC Practice and Qualifying As we have 2 bikes, in the first session I concentrated on the engine performance differences as the bikes have slightly different engine set ups. In the second session I focussed on the suspension setups which again are slightly different. As is always the case with these things, the engine I liked and the suspension setup I liked were in different bikes so the crew worked flatout to swap suspension from one bike to the other in time for qualifying. In qualifying session 1 I was as high as 4th but was pushed back to 7th as I sat the tail of the session out to conserve my bike and tyres. I was happy with my times (1:12:9) but felt there was still more improvement available in the bike setup. In qualifying session 2 the bike felt better but the level of grip on the track was not as good so my times did not improve, but then not many of my competition improved either. Race 1 In race 1 I got off to a reasonable start and was pushing hard to settle into the race early when it was red flagged. In the re-start I didn’t get the same great jump as the first time and then tried to over –ride the bike to make up the difference. This made it so I was more aggressive on the bike than in qualifying and it brought back the chatter issue I have been having recently. This was a little un-nerving as it made it uncertain at corner entry. I brought it home in 9th which was not what I thought I was capable of on the day. Race 2 We made some changes to the settings to the front suspension based on the fact that I would ride with the same aggression in race 2 as I did in race 1. I got a good start and settled into my race 1 speed early. As the race went on and my tyres wore down I could tell that I was getting better grip than some other riders so tried to lift my pace to the next level in the last few laps of the race. I managed to pass 3 factory riders making my way from 9th up to 6th. Overall we leave the weekend still in 6th place in the championship (equal with Bryan Staring) on 101 points and still within striking range of a good end of season result.
