Team Report - Joe Rocket Honda
|
| Honda’s factory riders
struggled to make ground at Winton’s round six last weekend
with both Glenn Allerton (Joe Rocket Honda) and Bryan
Staring (Jardine Honda) making early retirements from the
points chase. Whilst team mate Adam Fergusson helped out in the commentary box - sidelined with major injuries incurred in Tasmania - Allerton had the task of solely representing the marque in both classes. Allerton was still nursing a broken collarbone from a testing crash prior to round five in Tasmania. “I was still feeling a bit sore from my crash in Tasmania and struggled a little with a good qualifying position,” said the Camden based rider after qualifying in tenth in Superbike and eighth in Supersport. “I was happy with my race results for the first Supersport (7th) and Superbike (6th) races but was disappointed to crash in the second 600 race where I injured my hands pretty badly.” “I tried to put in a big effort in the next Superbike race but my hands were just too sore and I had no grip, so I had to pull out.” Allerton now sits fourth in Supersport and 11th in Superbike going into the final round at Eastern Creek in November. “Obviously I’m disappointed to have not completed all races this weekend but I’m really looking forward to the last race at my home track and am confident I will finish the season on a high,” said Allerton. After qualifying well and fighting hard for a top five finish in race one, CBR600RR rider Bryan Staring also came to grief, cutting his race day short. “I was really happy to grab my first front row qualifying position of the year this weekend and was also happy with my finish in the first Supersport race as there was a strong battle for those top positions,” the young rider said. “I crashed out in the second Supersport race which I was obviously really disappointed about.” “Our race set-up was good but I just lost grip going into the corner and lost the front.” “I did start the race again, but the bike was a bit banged up so I retired early.” Staring will be working to better upon his current eighth place standing and the Team, including a “hopeful” Fergusson who is about to undergo surgery on his collarbone, are all aiming to be fully fit by the final round in just under four weeks time. “This was a disappointing weekend for us,” said Team Manager Paul Free. “Our package is just not working the way we would like and it is showing in the results. That being said, the riders are giving it their all, particularly under difficult circumstances and riding with injuries.” “We would like to go out on a high note rather than a low one this year, so all efforts are now focused on improving upon the situation for the final round.” “Honda will be looking at completely reviewing and refocusing all components of our racing efforts for next year,” Free added.
