Team Report - Jeremy Crowe

Crowe wins AMCN Privateers Cup in YMF Loans Australian Supersport Championship

Following an eventful weekend that included a crash and a podium, Jeremy Crowe clinched the AMCN Supersport Cup for privateers and secured 4th place in the YMF Loans Australian Supersport Championship for 2006.

Practice and Qualifying

Qualifying – 2nd

Prior to this race meeting, Jeremy had done some shake down testing of the Yamaha R6 at the Eastern Creek circuit. With this testing fresh in his mind, Jeremy was able to start putting down some fast times very early in the weekend.

The fast times continued from Practice into Qualifying with Jeremy posting the 2nd fastest time with a 1:33:5 behind factory Yamaha rider Mark Aitchison who posted a 1:33:3. Both times well below the existing lap record.

“ I knew I could do quick times here as the Yamaha and Dunlop Combination works so well here. With the extra pressure of the close championship results I gave it all I had to post this time and I am very pleased with the results”.

Race 1

Result – 19th due to fall

The race started well with all riders getting good starts and settling into their qualifying positions with Jeremy riding comfortably in 2nd.

As the race progressed, Jeremy made a small error with a gear change between turns 1 and 2, which allowed both Jamie Stauffer, and Jason O’Halloran to slip through.

Jeremy settled into 4th place behind the factory Yamahas and waited for an opportunity to pass. This opportunity presented itself on the last lap between turns 3 and 4 allowing Jeremy to slip inside Jamie to take 3rd place.

However, as Jeremy entered turn 9 he lost front end grip and crashed. Despite picking the bike up as quickly as he could, the bike had sustained a broken right handlebar, which made it extremely difficult to apply the throttle. Jeremy managed to limp the bike home to gain 2 points for 19th.

“ I was so angry with myself for the crash. I took a defensive line into turn 9 to protect myself from the inside move from Jamie and I lost the front. I tried to save it with my knee but it wouldn’t come back. Then when I picked the bike up and the bar was broken I just did everything I could to get it moving as I was so close to the finish”

Race 2

Result – 3rd

The race started just like the first with all riders getting good solid starts and maintaining positions.

Jeremy and the three factory Yamaha riders pulled away from the other riders with Mark leading, Jamie second, Jeremy third and Jason fourth.

Throughout the race the riders maintained position and finished in that order to the flag.

“ I am very happy to finish on the podium and make amends for the race 1 mistake,” Jeremy said.

I would also like to thank my sponsors and supporters who have all helped in making this the most successful season of my racing career. A special thanks to Shaun Geronimi and the team for giving me the opportunity to keep racing in 2006. I look forward to 2007 with the Yamaha Racing Team and hope to repay their faith in me with a determined Championship challenge.
