Team Report - Joe Rocket Honda

After an unpredictable season, The Joe Rocket Honda Team achieved a tail end of year boost after finishing up the Australian Superbike Championships solidly at their final Eastern Creek appearance for the year.

Bryan Staring – filling in for the injured Adam Fergusson - and Glenn Allerton both focused their efforts on achieving good results in the 1000cc class in preparation for next year’s title chase.

Their efforts did not go without reward with Staring in particular coming away with an impressive fourth overall for the round after two hard fought battles in sweltering conditions.

Staring, who will be stepping up to a full factory ride next year was clearly happy with the outcome.

“I was pretty rapt with my race results this weekend, especially the second Superbike race. I had a really good battle with Shannon Johnson and it was a good feeling to get past him and finish in a strong fourth position.”

“I’m getting used to the bigger bike now and feeling pretty comfortable which is evident in the results,” the 19-year-old novice Superbike rider said.

“I’m really excited to be working with the Honda team in 2007 and am looking forward to showing my true potential next season. I really have to thank my team for all their support this year,” he added.

After a season hampered by injury, Allerton – who will move on from the Team next year - was relatively content with his grand finale to the season as well.

“I was pretty happy with my first race result and the bike felt really good,” Allerton said of his seventh place in Superbikes from a third row grid start.

“In the second race, I had some trouble in the rear end and didn’t feel that I could push as hard as I wanted to but I had a good battle with Andrew Stroud. Unfortunately I didn’t quite get past him.”

With a recent collarbone injury now on the mend, Allerton had to accept an 11th place overall in the Championships.

“I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t get a better result this weekend but I did my best and that’s all I can do,” he noted.

“I’d like to thank Honda for all their support this year and for giving me an opportunity to be part of their team.”

Perennial favourite, Fergusson – who served duty in the commentary box whilst sitting out a third round – is now recuperating from shoulder surgery that will hopefully put the 32 year-old-veteran in good stead to regain his 2004 dual titles next year with his Honda supported team.

Team Manager Paul Free noted that it has been a challenging year for the Joe Rocket and Jardine Honda Teams.

“We certainly had less then perfect results, but the guys tried hard at every round as well as during testing, and just had some bad luck with injuries.”

“I’m really pleased though to finish off this weekend with some good results in the Superbike races.”

“Both Glenn and Bryan battled for strong finishes and put in a lot of effort to finish where they did.”

On behalf of Honda Australia, Free also congratulated 2006 series Champion Jamie Stauffer.

“There is no doubt that Jamie was a force to be reckoned with this year,” Free said. “He put in an incredible performance and certainly deserves the titles and the accolades.”

“We’re now looking forward to renewing our energy, and winning those trophies back off Jamie and his Team next year!”
