Kawasaki Racing Team’s Mitchell Hoad has backed up his first round win in the Supercross Masters with another win in the Pro Lites class at round two, Claremont Showgrounds, Perth.

Hoad won two of the three races in his class on his way to another overall victory for the round.

With a perfect haul of 16 points after two rounds, the KX250F-mounted Hoad has a substantial four point lead over second placed Bronte Holland.

In the Pro Open class, a cold and heavy crash on ‘media day’ (two days before the racing) conspired to make life hard for round one winner, KRT’s KX450F rider Dan Reardon, but the gritty Queenslander still scored points on the night and is in equal second overall as the series goes into winter hibernation until the end of July.

Hoad’s win in the Pro Lites came after a wire to wire win in the first race and fifth place in the second after being run into by another rider during the early laps, causing him to fall back as far as 12th.

In the final moto he scored another win after crossing the line in second - but the first man across the line, Bronte Holland, was penalised for not rolling the jumps under a yellow flag and relegated three places.

“I was pretty happy to be second in  the final  race and  second overall on the night,   as I  would have still been  the points leader  championship  wise,” said Hoad after the racing. “With officials moving Bronte [Holland] back for jumping under the yellow it worked out better for me and my championship  and made  me feel a bit better for doing the right thing  when the flags were out!”

For Dan Reardon it was a tough weekend. Still recovering for a cold and riding injured after a crash a couple of days before the racing, he wasn’t at his best.

Reardon also found the track conditions not suiting his riding style and poor starts contributed to his troubles, but his results improved as the night wore on: he finished 7-6-5 in the three races.

“I never felt like I could get going tonight,” Reardon said. “The track was very hard for me to pass on and I got a poor jump or was bumped on each of the three starts.”

Despite Reardon’s disappointing results he is still in equal second overall in the championship and is looking forward to the next round, at home in Queensland.

The Pro Open class was won on the night by Daryl Hurley [Suzuki] from Timmy Weigand [KTM] and Danny Ham [Honda].

Weigand now leads the championship by four points from Reardon and Cheyne Boyd [Yamaha].

Team Manager Ross McWatters is pleased with the way the season is progressing, saying “We had a good night with Hoady, he rode well and deserves his points lead in the Pro Light championship. Dan [Reardon] was obviously off his best with his cold and some minor injuries from his press day crash – basically he  struggled in the conditions but it’s not all bad he is still second overall with [Cheyne] Boyd and only  four points behind Weigan.

The Supercross Masters resumes on September 29 in Brisbane after the conclusion of the motocross season, which fires up on April 2 at Wanneroo, just north of Perth.
