It was an action packed evening for the Husqvarna Racing team at the first round of the Ssangyong Australian Supermoto Championship run under lights last night in Sydney, with the Husqvarna Racing team obtaining podium positions in both the S2 and the Women’s Classes.

In his debut supermoto event, Adam Cini stormed the competition, not only qualifying for the evening’s races on pole in the S1class but also qualifying in 2nd position behind team mate Troy Herfoss in the S2 class. Cini took out the first S1 race of the evening, and also had an exceptional evening onboard his Husqvarna SMR 450 in the S2 class, with third and a fourth in the two races held to complete the round in 3rd position behind Stuart Bennett and Rodney Taplin.

“It was great to finish the night on the podium, as this is my first Supermoto event. I’m getting more and more comfortable riding the (Husqvarna) 450 and I’m really looking forward to the next round,” said a jubilant Cini after the trophy presentation.

Husqvarna Racing young gun Troy Herfoss who had only got back onboard his bike one week ago at a testing day, not only qualified on pole in the prestigious S2 class but also set the fastest lap of the day. Unfortunately his previous wrist injury gave him some trouble in the first race. Herfoss still managed to compete in the final race, coming from rear of field to finish 6th.

“My wrist felt really good during practice and qualifying, however I just went over one of the jumps and landed wrong which put extreme pressure on my wrist. The bike felt fantastic, and I’m sure that I will be one hundred percent for the next round,” explained Herfoss.

Husky Chix Rebecca Bateman, in her first official Australian Supermoto Championship round for the Husqvarna racing team, had an incident free evening aboard her Husqvarna Racing SMR 250 with two seconds and a first in the three races held to finish the round in second position closely behind Kristy Tripp.

The Husqvarna Supermoto Racing team will be at the second round of the Ssangyong Australian Supermoto Championship to be held at Sydney’s Oran Park, March 11th 2006.
