Konica Minolta Honda Day 1 Report
The fourteenth round of the 2006 MotoGP World Championship begun today on the Australian circuit of Phillip Island. This morning, the riders were welcomed on track by a cold weather with the ground temperature fixed at 15°C for the first 1-hour free practice session. A very different condition from the latest races held.

The KONICA MINOLTA Honda Team immediately provided a good set up of the bike to the Japanese rider who finished eleventh in today’s combined free practice classification with a best lap of 1’31.346”.

“I’m pretty satisfied of the job we have done today. My RC211V set up is almost ok and this permitted me to obtain my performance easily. I think I still have a good margin; tomorrow I want to get to the qualifying session in the best conditions to make a good use the qualifiers. Furthermore, tomorrow we will have to complete the choice of the race tyre: we still have two or three solutions to check for the rear tyre.”

“This morning we could work profitably on the bike set up and this, tomorrow, will allow us to focus on the tests for the final choice of the rear race tyres. Michelin brought here more material than usual and for this we feel confident to find the more suitable solution for Makoto. We still have to improve the bike handling in the circuit fast part and in braking before the two slow hairpins; Makoto also suffers some chattering problems.”
